Robert V. Serafin

SERAFIN Robert V. Serafin, 76, of Columbus, Mississippi, passed away Wednesday, October 5, 2011, at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House after a three year battle with cancer. He was born in Rumford, Maine on March 18, 1935, the son of Pietro A. Serafin and Bernadette A. Pelletier. He was retired from the Army and the Department of Education in Mississippi. He was a Master Mason, Scottish Rite, York Rite, and Shriner. He was a P.E.R. of the Elks Club, and a member of the Rumford Lodge, a member of the Odd Fellows. He was a Life Member of the V.F.W., the American Legion, the Amvets, and the Disabled American Veterans. He was a Chapter Commander of Chapter # 6 in Columbus, MS. He was a State Department Commander 2007 to 2008. He enjoyed restoring old Chevy and GMC pickup trucks, summer visits to Maine to visit with family and friends. As an avid sportsman he enjoyed hunting and fishing trips to Moosehead Lake with his good friend Jim Blaisdell along with several others. He was predeceased by his parents, a brother Elmo, and a sister Juliette Blake. He is survived by a son, Peter and his wife, Sonya of Scarborough; daughters, Ann and husband, Scott Burnham of Westbrook, Tina and husband, Charles Ferrara of So. Portland, and Bernadette Serafin of Scarborough; a brother, Francis Serafin of Brewer; two sisters, Gertrude Downs and Margaret Russell, both of Rumford; and several grandchildren who he enjoyed spending time with. Visiting hours will be from 4-6 p.m. Friday, October 14, at BLAIS & HAY FUNERAL HOME, 35 Church St., Westbrook, followed by a Masonic service at 6 p.m. Interment with military honors will be at a later date in Woodlawn Cemetery in Andover, ME.
