Rodney McCalla Obituary

McCalla Rodney L. McCalla, passed away on March 31, 2016 in Lakeland, Fl. to rejoin Dugan, Ed and Pete: his weekly golf foursome. "Mac" was born February 28, 1923 in Minneapolis to John and Mary McCalla. He proudly served in the Army Air Corps in WWII as a radio man/gunner flying 50 missions on B24s. He is survived by his wife of 70 years and the love of his life for 82 years, Muriel (Francin) McCalla. Mac started his own building company after the war and built quality custom homes in the Columbus area for 40 years. He was an award-winning master carpenter and an avid golfer, belonging to Brookside Country Club and then Royal Tee in Cape Coral. He worked part-time at the golf course in Florida until he was 89. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Alan McCalla and sister-in-law Gene. He is survived by daughters, Nancy (Ivan) Nance, Barbara (Douglas) Brooks, Patti (Dennis) Rouse; son, Mark (Carida) McCalla; grandchildren, Zach (Megan) Brooks, Sean Brooks, Ian (Carolyn) Nance, Aubrey Nance, Erin McCalla, Megan (Andy) Parker, Kevin Rouse and Kyle (Jess) Rouse; and six great grandchildren. As per his request, there will be no memorial service, but feel free to toast one of the best members of the greatest generation.

Peace be with all the McCalla's. The Solt family was blessed to live in a McCalla built home and the best part was probably the building process. Lots of laughs between Jim and Rodney.

Our thoughts and prayers to Mark, Carida, and their family. We had the privilege of knowing Rodney He designed our current house and we are proud to say we have a McCalla home. May he rest in peace and we'll definitely lift one in his honor!

Our office building, built by Rodney in 1974

Our sincere condolences go out to the McCalla family from all of us at Cellar Lumber in Westerville. Rodney built our office building back in about 1974, and I've always been told that it is built so solidly that you could park a tank up on the second floor if you could figure out how to get it up there. He also built the house I grew up in over on Sunbury Rd. in about 1974 as well. Our thoughts and prayers are with the McCalla Family and we will raise a glass in his honor at the first opportunity.
