Salvatore Dell'Anno Obituary

Dell'Anno Salvatore R (Sal) Dell'Anno, age 89, passed away Wednesday, January 7, 2015, at his home. In typical fashion, son, Vincent was at his side, not wanting to leave his Father alone. Salvatore R was a people person, never wanting to be alone. Born in Chicago, Illinois on September 22, 1925 to Vincenzo and Clementina Dell'Anno. Salvatore R leaves behind beloved sister, Annina and brother in-law, Americo Tessitore; nieces, Paula Hambrick and Mary Foote. Once married to and preceded in death by Lola J Dell'Anno, Salvatore R leaves behind four children, son, Vincent (Mary) Dell'Anno; daughter, Tina (Tom) Zielinski; daughter, Lisa (John) Lawson; son, Salvatore D Dell'Anno. Salvatore R was Grandfather to six grandchildren, Elana, Dean, Eva, David, Jennifer and Salvatore. Salvatore R was a United States Veteran of WWII and Korea. United States Army and United States Air Force. He also served as Commander of the Illinois American Legion, Post 472. Salvatore R retired in 1980 after 35 years service with Sears Roebuck & Co. During retirement, he also enjoyed his time spent working for Rand McNally, Jack Maxton Chevrolet, Henderson Realtors, Pingue Properties, Properties Unlimited, and Nu-Trend Realty, as well as other personal business ventures. Salvatore R enjoyed numerous hobbies such as cooking, photography, audio/video, woodworking, electrical work, and general home repair. He had a special talent to be able to fix just about anything. Another special talent was his ability to be able to research anything on the planet. If you needed an answer, he could find it for you. If you were buying something, he knew the best one with the latest technology. Salvatore R was one of those very approachable guys you could confide in with a problem you may have. He had a very big heart and would help anyone, in any way he could. He was one of those people that could talk to anyone, on any subject that rare gift of gab. To know him was to know that he liked to do it his way, truly part of his charm. He will be sadly missed by all those that he touched. After years of illness, may you finally be pain free. You may now rest in peace old soldier. No one single individual deserves it more. Thanks to St Joseph's Hospice for caring for our Father. A very special thanks for years of care by the Home Health Aids from Interim Healthcare, who treated our Father like he was their own Grandfather. May God bless you for the special work you do. Friends may call Monday 5-7 p.m. at the SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON CHAPEL, 6699 N. High Street, (1/2 mile south of 270). Funeral service will be held 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, 6077 Sharon Woods Blvd., with Fr. Charles E. Cotton. Entombment Resurrection Cemetery. I apologize for misspelling Mr. Francone's name...was unable to edit.

So sorry to hear of Mr. Dell'Anno's, (my dad, Lyle Hay, would've corrected me immediately if I had the notion to call Mr. Dell'Anno or Mr. Falcone or Mr. Renzi by their 1st names, though we saw them often), passing. Reading the obituary reminded of Mr. Dell'Anno's great sense of humor. He could weave a story or a long winded joke like a magician, usually ending in an explosion of laughter. I know for a fact that my dad thought very highly of these gentlemen in their careers that intertwined in those years from 1971 - 1985. I always looked forward to seeing them, including Lola Dell'Anno, (who I could could call by her 1st name, a pleasant and beautiful woman, well versed and suited to Mr. Dell'Anno). May they both find peace, as well comfort for their survivors, especially their children who I remember quite fondly. My deepest condolences to all.

So sad to hear of Sal's passing. He was my mentor for so many years at Sears. He took me under his wing and made me a better person by his example and guidance. Heaven is now enriched with his spirit. God bless you Sal.
