Stephen Seidensticker Obituary

Seidensticker, Stephen
Stephen Seidensticker, 65, of Sarasota, Florida, formerly of Bexley, Ohio, and Boca Grande, Florida, passed away on Aug. 14, 2018. He was born in Bexley on May 13, 1953. He was preceded in death by mother Mary Elizabeth Seidensticker and father Louis Seidensticker. Survivors include daughters, Lisa Seidensticker (Ryan) and Olivia Seidensticker; sons, Joseph Seidensticker and Patrick Seidensticker (Kim); grandchildren, Kannon, Asher and Sadie Fae; sister, Ellen Seidensticker (Lou); brothers, Jeffrey Seidensticker (Linda), Louis Seidensticker (Kathleen) and Joseph Seidensticker (Cheryl); a very dear lifelong friend, Stanley Greenblott; and a scattering of thousands of friends.
Steve left his mark in the Sarasota area as founder of the Tableseide Restaurant Group, and two of its establishments are named for his parents, the popular Libby's Café + Bar and Louie's Modern. More importantly, Steve was known for his altruism. He was dedicated to serving the underprivileged, often through anonymous charitable works, and he hired people struggling with addiction or felonies on their record to give them a second chance. As his children took over the restaurant group, Steve turned his attention to Tableseide Cares, the nonprofit philanthropic arm of his business. He planned to open a restaurant in Newtown to give the neighborhood a boost and provide job-training for young people. Before his death Steve served as temporary guardian for a longtime homeless man so that this stranger could enter a treatment and support program. Count Michael Smith among Steve's survivors. Steve "was a street angel," according to the leader of a local foundation in Florida. "We need to continue that legacy he left our community." No immediate services are scheduled, though a celebration of life in Sarasota will be held in the near future. Steve wants it to be a big party. Contributions may be made to the Steve Seidensticker Memorial Fund to benefit the Newtown restaurant c/o Gulf Coast Community Foundation, 601 S. Tamiami Trail, Venice, FL 34285, or online at gulcoastcf.org/Steve-Seidensticker-memorial-fund. By way of tribute, it is suggested you also consider conducting your life in the way Stephen Seidensticker did: Live in gratitude. Pay it forward.

We knew Steve from Boca Grande, where he was a family friend and helped us plan our wedding celebrations at the Inn. He was wonderful to be around and great to work with. Steve's outreach in Sarasota is a wonderful example of a giving heart. Peace with love to our dear friend Patty and their kids: Lisa, Joseph and Patrick and their spouses and grandkids. The Connor family (Charles & Helen) from Stanwood Rd. Bexley have so many memories of Steve. I was couple years behind him in school but was always trying to keep up.
From all he did to all he touched it is clear Steve lived a full life and will be missed.

Much love.

Steve and I were childhood friends. We lived two houses apart on Stanwood Avenue. Lots of good times were had. We haven't seen each other in many years but did reconnect on FB over the years. To his family and friends, my condolenses. My deepest regret is not having made it to Sarasota to meet up with him. Much admiration for the work Steve was doing in his community. ❤

Steve always made me feel like family. I worked for him almost ten years. Felt like family since day one. One of my fondest memories is after I had my baby... I came to Libbys to eat and Steve came by and shared his love, then came back with a card. It said "happy easter" , but he crossed it out and wrote "happy baby" and enclosed a check. It was such a "Steve" thing to do.
