William Snider Obituary

Snider, Dr. William L.
1929 - 2020
Rev. Dr. William L. Snider, age 90, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, February 23, 2020. Dr. Snider was born on May 3, 1929 in Somerset, Ohio to Homer and Nellie Snider. He is preceded in death by his twin brother Joe, brother Robert, and sister Marguerite. Survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Betty J.; sister, Loretta; daughter, Pamela Richards; sons, Rev. Trent Snider and Rev. Michael Gardner; 4 grandchildren, Amy, Billy, Becky, Zachary; and 5 great-grandchildren, Abbie, Lauren, Ryan, Aubree, Tucker. Pa loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren and had a nickname for each of them. Dr. Snider graduated from Otterbein University with a Bachelor of Arts degree, Trinity Lutheran Seminary with a Master of Divinity degree, and Slidell Seminary with a Doctorate of Theology degree. Dr. Snider was ordained as a minister in 1958 and retired in 2012. In that time, he founded and pastored several churches in the greater Columbus area and touched many lives. He preached with passion and fervor and found no greater joy than leading the lost to Christ. While we grieve his loss, we celebrate the incredible legacy of a man who loved God, never knew a stranger, and loved people fiercely. When the family would go to eat, we would often tell our Pa to head to the door 30 minutes before the rest of us because he would stop and talk to many people along the way. We can only imagine the welcome he received when he entered into Heaven. Please join us in celebrating his life. Calling hours will be Thursday, February 27 from 5-8pm at Heritage Free Will Baptist Church, 575 Obetz Road, Columbus, Ohio 43207. A memorial service will be held Friday, February 28 at 11am at Heritage Free Will Baptist Church with Dr. Timothy W. Stout, Rev. Brian Humphrey, and Rev. Michael Gardner officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, 6440 S. High Street. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Dr. Snider's memory to Heritage Free Will Baptist Church, 575 Obetz Road, Columbus, Ohio 43207. Arrangements entrusted to the O.R. Woodyard Funeral Home.

I first met Rev. Snider when I was 16 years old at his new E.U.B. church on South High Street. He was our family miniister through many years. We was a rock for the Wisecarver family, standing by us through tragedys, weddings, funerals and just general support. We were very blessed to have him in our lives and he will be missed by our family and so many other people lives he touched. A great man we were lucky to have known. My heart goes out to your family.

Rev. Snider was a blessing to the Wisecarver family for many years. Growing up and attending EUB church on High street was just the beginning. Since then, he baptized most of us, performed marriage ceremonies and funeral services for our family. Many times he would do home and hospital visits with our family. He was a true friend as well as pastor. Such a great man with a gentle spirit. May you rest in peace now - your work is done. Love, The Wisecarver Family (Diana, Jeff and Cheryl).

I'd like to extend heartfelt thoughts and prayers to the family of Rev. Snider. My family were members of his EUB South High Street and subsequent Obetz Road church congregation during the 1960's and, I attended his Saturday morning Catechism classes as a preteen. I recall, even as a young boy, how engaging were his sermons and Christian teachings, many that I still effort to practice daily. How wonderful he must now be in the presence of the heavenly Father.

There are so many things I could say about Rev Snider. First met him when our Avondale gospel group sang at S. High EUB. He was so kind to a bunch of Kids starting out. He met my mom at a diner on S. High, and later guided my father as he prepared to meet the Lord. He was kind enough to let me assist in baptizing my mother when she was in her 80's. He said her given name was too hard so he named her Sam and it stuck. The entire church family called her that. They loved to tease each other. I was honored to have him preach mom's going home. Proud to call him Pastor and Friend.

He was a down to earth type person that was very kind and spoke a powerful message. He married my husband and I 30 years ago. He also married my son and his wife and daughter and her husband and did burial service for my father in law. He will truly be missed.

Pastor Snider was a Holy Ghost filled man. Every time you talked to him he had a spiritual word to say to encourage you. He loved the Lord with all of his heart. He is with the Father in Heaven, Glory to God.

Pastor Snider married my wife and I, 9 years ago. Although I grew up in Columbus, I have lived in Las Vegas for 15 years. When we came home to get married my former pastor would not marry us because we already lived together. My dad has known Pastor Snider for years and said let's go meet him for lunch. He would be thrilled to marry you. We sat at lunch and I told him the struggle to find a pastor for the wedding. The laughed and exclaimed Ha! All the more reason you should be married! I would be honored to be a part of such a day. It was a great moment of love, support, and faith all in one gesture. Rest In Peace Pastor... you are loved by many.

A modern day Legend has gone on to glory! He was my favorite person in the entire world. He taught me to never let anyone steal your joy. I loved it when he preached and would tell me that his Helper showed up today. There was nothing like that little jump and kick when he would get excited preaching. My heartfelt condolences to Betty and the family. He will be greatly missed. We look forward to seeing him again!

Reverend Snider was the most Godly man I have ever known, I will miss him so. He shared in the joy of marriages in my family and comforted us in our grief when we lost family in death. I find comfort knowing he is where he worked his whole life to be. My deepest sympathy to Betty and all of his family. God rest his soul.

I knew Rev Snyder all my life (68) years. He and my grandfather were great buddies. My family were members of all his churches. I always hugged him whenever I got a chance because I could feel the spirit of GOD flowing thru him. I always called him GOD's left hand man. I will miss him!
