William "Bill" Thomas Sr.

Thomas Sr. William "Bill" Thomas, Sr., the third son of Jeff and Ines Hadaway Thomas, was born in Gainesville Georgia. He departed this life on Saturday, March 29, 2014, at Select Specialty Hospital. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Walter, Marion, and Robert (Bobby) and his grandson Matthew Wesley Parks, Jr. He attended Columbus Public Schools. He was a long-time employee of Sims Electric. Later, he was employed by McKeever Electric and Panic Lighting. He was married to Thelma (Hunt) Thomas and to their union was born William, Jr., Janice Thomas Parks (deceased), and Gene Thomas Harris. He was a member of the Woodland Christian Church. Bill was affiliated with Gloria Lodge #89, Alla Baba Temple# 53, where he attained the rank of honorary Past Potentate. He was a member of the Mini Car Patrol. He also served as president of the Short People's Club. Left to mourn his passing: his wife of 67 years, Thelma; children, Rev. Dr. William, Jr. (Michael Kosik), Dr. Gene Thomas Harris, (Stanley); grandson, Wade Thomas Harris, (Belinda), three great-grand-children, Nathan Josiah Harris, Noah Jason Harris, and Naomi Joanna Jenice Harris; sisters-in-law, Betty Thomas, Isabelle Hunt, and Bobbie Hunt; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Special thanks to the physicians, nurses, patient care assistants, therapists, techs and all staff at Mt. Carmel East and Select Specialty Hospital who took such professional and loving care of our husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Our heartfelt thanks is extended to nurse Angela, at Select Specialty Hospital, who ensured that his transition was respectful and peaceful. We could not have endured this time period without the consistent prayers and presence of our pastors, Rev. Dr. Eric Brown and Rev. Dr. Charles E. Booth. Masonic service at 6:30 p.m. Friends may also call on Friday beginning at 11 a.m. at the church. Celebration of life will follow at 12Noon. Rev. Dr. Eric Brown, Officiant.
