Joe Winders Obituary

Joe Don Winders, "Tadpole", age 74, died Monday, February 26, 2018 at his residence in Hamilton. Joe was born on August 21, 1943 in Hamilton, Mississippi to James (J.K.) Kelly Winders and Kate Cunningham Winders. Joe lived his entire life in Hamilton, Mississippi.

Joe attended Hamilton High School. He was a member of Bartahatchie Baptist Church.

God blessed Joe with a mechanical talent. Joe was the best mechanic in North Mississippi. At the age of 9, he took parts and pieces from Winders Garage Salvage Yard and had a car running that he could drive, his first car. Joe helped get the fire department in Hamilton then helped build it. He drove the first fire truck. The truck was very well used and Joe was the only one who could keep it running. Joe became co-owner of Winders Auto Parts D and J Trucking. When Mr. George Wheyheser's trucks and equipment was in the area and had break downs, they would call Joe to fix them. Joe could fix any motor that could be fixed. He could hear a vehicle running and tell what was wrong with it. He could see the smoke and know what was wrong with it.

In April 1981, Joe was forced out of Winders Parts and D and J Trucking and everything he had worked for. That was when Joe and Janice started Joe's Trucking. Joe contracted out to Apac of Mississippi, hauling asphalt to the campgrounds on the waterway, Highway 82 bypass around Columbus, Highway 45, other highways, city streets, parking lots, wherever asphalt was needed. In 1998, Joe got the haul to the concrete plants in West Point, Starkville, Amory, Aberdeen, and Severstal, hauling sand, gravel, and limestone. Joe hauled sand to all the golf courses north of Jackson, Mississippi. He hauled sand to Mississippi State University wherever they needed it: football fields, baseball fields, soccer fields, golf courses.

At Bartahatchie Baptist Church, he helped with the 8-12 year old Sunday School Class and helped with Vacation Bible School. Joe love his Bartahatchie Church family. He was always ready to go to church and would have been there every night if he could have.

At a young age, Joe would drive his Big Mama (Myra Cunningham) to Gospel Singings in Mississippi and Alabama. Joe enjoyed singing Gospel songs on the radio as he traveled. Joe loved Gospel Singings. He enjoyed fishing for catfish. He enjoyed helping people. He would give people rides, gas, or whatever he could to help them out.

Joe loved spending time with his girls. Patches the Cat slept with him every night and would sit and watch television with him. J.J. Rabbit (service animal) traveled wherever he went.

Services will be at 3:00 p. m., Friday, March 2, 2018 in the Tisdale-Lann Memorial Chapel in Aberdeen with Bro. Philip Lindsey officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.

Joe is survived by his wife of 37 years and mother of their daughter, Janice Weeks Winders of Hamilton; a son, Donny Winders of Hamilton; a special son, Charles Wayne and Angela Winders of Hamilton; two grandsons, Destin Winders of Hamilton and Brady Winders or New Hope; two sisters, Lonese and Noel Weaver of Aberdeen, Emma and Don Ausborn of Aberdeen; two brothers, Garland and Judy Winders of Conyers, Georgia.
