A lifelong resident of north Mississippi, Milton was born on July 22, 1935, in the Gift community of Alcorn County. While moving with his dad, a school principal, Milton attended several schools in the area, but ultimately graduated from Jumpertown High School. He continued his education at the University of Mississippi, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy, which would become his lifelong career.
Before he graduated, following a recommendation from an Ole Miss professor, Milton was offered a pharmacy position at a local Starkville pharmacy. While working there, he met the love of his life - a beautiful young lady from Pontotoc, MS, and student at MUW in Columbus -Jauniece Luther. Their first date was to attend a church service - only the beginning of their life of serving the Lord together.
Milton and Jauniece moved to Booneville when he was recruited for a position at the local hospital. He later opened his own pharmacy, Floyd Drug, in downtown Booneville. After closing Floyd Drug, he worked retail for fellow local pharmacists in Booneville and Iuka, before returning to Baptist Hospital-Booneville where he ended his career, as a weekend pharmacist.
Worldly possessions mattered not to Milton. He valued God, family, and friends - in that order. Milton's love and loyalty was to his Lord & Savior above all else. He lived his life in a "follow me as I follow Christ" sort of way.
Christ instructed his apostles in Mark 16:15, "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature." Milton showed his obedience to this commandment, not only by supporting mission work all over the world, but also through his love of teaching the gospel to literally hundreds of souls right here where he lived. Through the years, he, along with other faithful brothers in Christ, conducted innumerable Bible studies in the homes of many - leading them to Christ, baptizing them, and bringing them into God's family. Milton also taught Bible classes at the Prentiss County Jail for many years. He was a member of Booneville Church of Christ, where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher.
Milton's love for the Lord and His church was followed closely by his love and devotion for his family. He delighted in his lifetime love and partner, Jauniece. For over 67 years, they modeled what love, marriage, and a life devoted to Christ should be. Together they exemplified Christianity and hospitality, opening their home to so many over the years for food, fellowship, and encouragement. He loved his children immensely, celebrating each accomplishment and offering support in every trial and disappointment. He absolutely cherished his grandchildren and loved to hear every detail of their lives. If you wanted to put a smile on Milton's face, just ask him about his grandchildren.
Milton had many friends that were special to him. From work, golfing, hunting, or playing Rook, he enjoyed his time with friends and extended family. Most dear to him were his brothers in Christ who joined him in his life's mission to spread the Gospel.
Milton is survived by his wife and love of his life, Jauniece; sons, Robert Milton (Bob) Floyd, Jr. (Sherry) and Luther Scott Floyd; son-in-law, Joel Maners (Janet); grandchildren, Alicia Taylor (Brett), Sara, Cameron, and Forrest Maners, and Koley and Macey Floyd; step grandchildren, Laura and Sara Crocker and MaKaylee Owens; a great grandson, Paxton Taylor; step great-grandchildren, Dalton and Seth Stacks; and brother-in-law, Kermit Jones. He is also survived by a special niece and caregiver, Cindy (Dwight) Pharr, and many treasured nieces and nephews, along with a host of other cherished friends and family.
Milton was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis and Lillie Floyd, his beloved and only daughter, Traci Lynn Maners; his brother, Howard Floyd, and sisters, Louise Moore and Helen Jones.
Milton lived his life the way it should be lived - with faith, love, and joy. In the midst of all the high and lows, Milton stayed the same. He served the Lord, supported his family, and encouraged others. He lived his life with a hope for Heaven. He lived it devoted to Christ and his loved ones. He taught. He gave. He encouraged. He loved. Milton was the epitome of what a Christian, husband, father, and friend should be. While we mourn his passing, we also give thanks for his life and rejoice in the legacy of faith and family he leaves behind.
