My friend David will be greatly missed. He was a kind and gentle man. We shared many laughs and made lots of memories together that I will treasure forever. He was witty and intelligent and loved animals like no other! My condolences to the family he leaves behind. I know that he loved you all dearly. Family was important to him. I will always think of David fondly and with a smile on my face.

My sincere condolences to the greater Effler family. I have such fond memories as a kid on summer days spent out at the Effler home on Overall Creek, surrounded by as much militaria and civil war history as any kid could want...no doubt one of the influences in my later choice to serve on active duty for nearly 30 years. David was the ever-present older brother to my contemporary Steve and me, and served as a role model of 'all things teenager' for Steve and I to observe, including one day when David was washing his car, and had decided to connect the hose to the drain of the home's hot water heater to optimize the effect. Joanne ran out of the house, admonishing him for his wastefulness, but he was SO proud of how shiny that expensive hot water washing had done for his car! All my best to Steve, Tom, and Doug, with sorrow for your loss of this great American.

I remember with happiness a time when we were both younger and my younger Brother Michael and your younger Brother Steven played war that included us both in the back yard of your house and in our backyard and up in the tree fort there . Mom would take Michael , Steven and myself out to the Stones River Battlefield where we played amongst the rocks that Confederate and Yankee soldiers fought and died a 100 years before us

I met David in my 20's when he was stationed at Ft. Ord in Monterey, CA. We lost touch for 30+ years and we reconnected in the past few years. David was a kind and generous man who would always be there for you if you needed him. I cared for him deeply. My love and prayers go out to family and friends of David. I will miss him greatly as I know you will too.
