Glenn Forrester Obituary

Glenn Wayne Forrester, a resident of Columbia, died Saturday morning, June 3, 2017, at his home. He was 70. Memorial services will be held at 4:00 P.M., Monday, June 5, 2017, at Ebenezer Baptist Church with Reverend Don Tew and Walter Hoskins, Chaplain (LTC, U.S. Army, Retired) officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 P.M. Monday in the church sanctuary. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. There will also be a Celebration of the Holy Eucharist at noon on Tuesday, June 6, 2017, officiated by Priest-in-Charge Mother Phoebe McFarlin at the Episcopal Church of the Ascension, 110 NE 1st Street, Carrabelle, FL 32322. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ebenezer Baptist Church, 3894 Ebenezer Road, Columbia, AL 36319 or to the Episcopal Church of the Ascension in Carrabelle. Mr. Forrester was born and reared in Houston County near Columbia, son of the late William Carl Forrester and Berrell Antley Forrester. He was a 1964 graduate of the Houston County High School in Columbia. He was also a graduate of Chipola College and Auburn University, where he received a degree in Agronomy and Soils in 1968. He was a retired farmer and in 2006 was named the Alabama Farmer of the Year. He loved his family, farming, bird dogs, bird hunting, and fishing. He was a truly blessed man with many friends and loved ones. During his community and professional life, he was a Lay Eucharistic Minister, Lector, and member of the Ascension Mission Board at the Episcopal Church of the Ascension in Carrabelle and also served as a Deacon at Ebenezer Baptist Church. He previously served as a school board member, President of the Alabama Society of Weed Science, President of the Alabama Crop Improvement Association, President of the Southern Seed Certification, and Chairman of the Houston County Soil and Water Conservation District. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Annette Forrester, and a brother, Jackie Carl Forrester. Surviving relatives include his wife of 50 years, Sylvia Brown Forrester; a daughter, Janna Forrester Sayer (John), Clarkston, GA; three sons, Jared Brown Forrester (Missy), Dothan; Jonas Carl Forrester (Sharee), Lawrenceville, GA; and Jason William Forrester (Adriene), New York City; eight grandchildren, Sanjay Forrester, Carl Forrester, Oliver Sayer, Jordan Forrester, Claire Forrester, Evan Sayer, Lachlan Willis, and Janie Kay Forrester; a daughter-in-law, Vidya Seejattan of Bowie, MD; two brothers, Reverend Ted Forrester (Betty Sue), and Charles Forrester (Bonnie), all of Ashford; a brother-in-law, W. Morris Brown (Jennifer) of Crawfordville, FL; as well as several nieces and nephews. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Bo Stewart, Buster Robinson, Miguel Gomez, Rosendo Pineda, David Lee Stewart, Willie P. Stewart, and Odilio Hernandez.
