Eleanor Grace Kerr

June 9, 2008 Resident of San Leandro, CA Eleanor Grace Kerr entered peacefully into rest in Castro Valley on June 9, 2008. She was 87 years old. Born and raised in Millis, Massachusetts, Eleanor had joined the U.S. Navy as a W.AV.E serving 4 years as a physical therapist with severely wounded from the Pacific Theater of WWII. With the assistance of the G.I. Bill, Eleanor received her RN degree at San Jose State University and served as a nurse at Peralta, Highland and Fairmont Hospitals. Eleanor had lived in Washington Manor in San Leandro for 58 years and was also an original parishioner of St. Felicitas Catholic Church. She also loved to travel extensively with her husband during their long retirement years. She will truly be missed. Eleanor is survived by her beloved husband, Howard W. Kerr. She will truly be missed by her daughter Mary Kerr Redgrave of Livermore, son, Dr. Howard Jay Kerr of San Ramon and son, John Richard Kerr of Tasmania. She also leaves behind her 7 loving grandchildren. Visitation for Eleanor will be on Thursday from 4 to 8 pm at Grissom's Chapel & Mortuary, 267 E. Lewelling Blvd.,San Lorenzo. A vigil service will be held on Thursday at 7 pm at the chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10 am at St. John's Catholic Church, 264 E. Lewelling Blvd.,San Lorenzo.
