Ernie, I don't know if you will see this, but I just heard about this and would like to extend my deepest condolences to you and your family.

Your father seemed like a very nice man the one time I met him in Wendover, and from the article it sounds like your parents had a great life together. What an unbelievable tragedy. God Bless, and hope to see you soon in LA or Vegas.

Prof. Anbendroth taught the first accounting class I had after returning to college after a 15 year break. She will always be the standard to which all other professors/classes will be compared. I learned so much from her--I feel fortunate to have experienced the commitment she had for her profession and her students. My sincere condolences; what a tragic loss.

I just learned of the tragic death of your parents. I was very shocked. I remember that your parents gave my son, Brian, a party at their home when he was 15 or 16 years old. Very generous people. My heart goes out to this family.

I have only known Ernie for about a year and have met Charlene once, but Ernie's strong character and obvious passion for his family has left a lifelong impression on me. I pray that God gives you all everything you need to make it through this difficult time. My thoughts and prayers will continue to go out to your entire family.

And to you Ernie... I am very glad I had a chance to meet you and your wife. I keep waiting for my phone to ring and to hear your voice on the other end looking to hear how business is going. I'm on top of it all, Ernie, and I will continue to make sure everything goes well. You have my word...

Dear Skip & Cathy,
We remember your loving Mom & Dad very well, always with you, on the soccer & baseball fields of Athan Downs many years ago. You were blessed with truly good parents.
We feel so deeply hurt for you, and pray that you will somehow come through this nightmare. May both Ernie & Cherie rest in Peace, and may you once again feel their kindness and watchfulness over you. God Bless You.
Sincerely,

Mary Ann (Blakely) LeDosquet

Cathy and Skip,

Your parents were such wonderful, generous people. Your mom helped me countless times, from sacrificing her time to proctor a test for me to throwing my bridal shower. She was so selfless and kind. My prayers are with you as you deal with this tragedy. I can't imagine what you must be going though, but I pray that you'll have the strength to cope with your loss.

Ernie and Cherie walked precincts to help me become elected to the US Congress. I shall never forget them for that. Much more recently, my wife and I so enjoyed sharing a trip to Antarctica with them. They cared deeply about our country and our state, and we shall all miss them terribly.

Ms. Abendroth was a great and inspirational lecturer; I learnt so much from her. She was my academic adviser when I took my MBA in Accounting at CSUH during 1995-1997. I will pray for her and her husband. My condolences and deepest sympathy to her children and other family members and also to her colleagues, the accounting faculty members of CSUH/CSUEB.

It seems so unreal that such wonderful people were taken from this world. No words can express my deepest sympathy for your family. My thoughts and prayers are with you always.

I have so many wonderful memories growing up and spending time from camping to Girl Scouts and the famous April sleep over month.

Your Parents touched many people in so many ways their lifes were so special I am just so sorry they were taken away.

Professor Abendroth,

In my Accounting classes, among the many things you taught me, you taught me that an “asset” is a probable future benefit as a result of a past transaction or event. As a result of all your past actions and dedication to teaching and mentoring students and colleagues, generations have benefited and will continue to benefit from your being in this world. You were a true asset to this world.

The day after I heard the tragic news, I received this quote of Ralph Waldo Emerson in the mail:

“That person is a success who has lived well, laughed often and loved much, who has gained the respect of intelligent people and the love of children, who has filled his niche and accomplished his tasks, who leaves the world a better place than he found it, whether it be an improved poppy, a perfect poem or a rescued soul, who never lacks appreciation for earth’s beauty or fails to express it, who looks for the best in others and gives the best he has.”

I immediately thought of you when I read this; you truly met and exceeded this definition of a success.

I appreciate all you did for me, both as my instructor and as my colleague. Your kindness and willingness to assist me, whenever it was needed, will never be forgotten. Thank you.

Dear Catherine and Skip,

I never had the opportunity to meet your father but I loved your mom. When she moved into our ward we just thought she was the greatest from the very beginning. She added so much to our Relief Society with her wonderful teaching skills and testimony. She was a kind, gentle, and caring woman. I will miss her greatly. When you have to come back to Pleasanton please know that I'm here and will be glad to help you in any way. May our Heavenly Father be with you when you return to your homes and may only fond wonderful memories be in your thoughts and minds.
Love, Joy Cromar

I feel fortunate to have known both Charlene and Ernie. Charlene was a much loved and respected teacher and mentor to me as I got my bachelor's and Master's degrees. Ernie was a tireless and passionate warrior for what he thought was right. I pray that God will comfort you in your time of loss.

Dear Scherer children, I am so sorry for your devastating loss. I knew your Mom from church. She was kind and loving and willing to help on a moments notice. She was a wonderful example to those who knew her. I met your Dad briefly and thought him to be a kind and good man. May you have the peace and comfort you need, each and every day until you see them again.
