Patrick Joseph O'Sullivan passed away peacefully on Monday December 12, 2016 in Oakland, CA at the age of 89.
Patrick was born in New York and graduated from the Bronx High School of Science.
He served in the Army during WWII from 1945-1947. Upon return he attended Davis & Elkins College in West Virginia.
Patrick worked as a chemist for Colgate-Palmolive before working for Sperry Rand in New York repairing computer boards. He later transferred to Sperry Univac / Unisys in the Bay Area where he worked until his retirement.
He had many interests & passions in his life. In his youth he boxed in the Golden Gloves and later registered a U.S. Patent. He loved math, working with his hands, drawing, puzzles, origami, photography and was extremely well read.
He enjoyed being a Member of the SIR (Sons in Retirement) Organization and was active in several Berkeley Senior Centers.
Patrick always loved a good joke and was very friendly and gregarious. His kindness & selflessness will be missed by all!
Patrick is survived by his wife of 56 years Ruth O'Sullivan, "His Child Bride"; Son, Michael O'Sullivan (Ann); daughter, Sheila Stych (Andrew); brother, Dan O'Sullivan (Julia); sister, Sheila Schweizer (Conrad); nieces, Diane Snyder (Jerry), Carol Di Stefano (Marco), and Laura O'Sullivan; nephew, Danny Shweizer (Adrienne); and grand nieces and nephews.
A special thank you to Mercy Retirement and Care Center & its staff of Angels who took great care of Patrick for the last 5 years.
A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, December 22nd at 10:00 am at Corpus Christi Church, 322 St James Dr, Piedmont, CA 94611.All are welcome. Interment to follow at Mountain View Cemetery at 5000 Piedmont Ave, Oakland, CA 94611.
