Joel Braunstein Obituary

Dr. Joel Braunstein was an exceptional human being. Wise, funny, and observant, he was the ultimate provider; willing to spend as much time with his patients as was needed to diagnose and treat them.

Dr. Braunstein of Casa Grande, Arizona, passed away on Jan. 29, 2024; he was 75.

Born Oct. 22, 1948, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he was the oldest of two sons born to Margaret and Oscar Braunstein. An alumni of Temple University (1970) and the College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery (1973), he practiced across New Jersey, Texas, Illinois, Indiana and Arizona impacting and saving thousands of lives in his 50 years of practice in family medicine.

He is survived by his wife, Debra Braunstein, and their four children, Jeremy Braunstein, Jennifer Braunstein, Amanda Tarner and Stefanie (Terrance) Voss; their five grandchildren, Treyshon, Marquell, Israel, Kyden and Brielle; and his brother, Michael Braunstein. He's preceded in death by both parents and his beloved dog, Moose.

He was a wonderful husband, father and friend who is already missed tremendously.

Services were private, but Dr. Braunstein was a patron of the following charities: Boys & Girls Club, any chocolate Labrador rescue, and Wounded Warrior Project. Those who wish to show support to his widow and family, please make a donation in his name.

Cheers, Dad, we drank the expensive wine to toast: until we hear "oh it's you" again, we'll hold the line and remember.

So saddened to hear of Dr Braunstein's passing. He was the best Dr we ever had. He was so kind and helped me through so many insecurities as a young mom. I often tell the story of my youngest daughter who I was having a hard time to get potty-trained. I made an appt with Dr Braunstein to have her checked out to make sure there was nothing wrong. He gave her a clean bill of health, then he told her, "You're a big girl! You can go on the potty." She went on the potty from that day on! lol He was a wonderful, wonderful man! My condolences to the family.

One of the finest men I've ever had the pleasure to meet. He and Deb helped me through a very difficult period and treated me to many a Thanksgiving Dinner. Rest in Peace my friend.

I am so sorry to read just now of Dr. Braunstein's passing. Dr. Braunstein was a wonderful person. He was kind, considerate, generous and told great stories. During his tenure as a provider where I worked, I had the pleasure of attending a conference in Chicago with him. He was such a gentleman, he carried my "floral" luggage thru the airport without so much as a second thought, saying "my Mom would have expected no less of me than to be a gentleman". Dinner with him at the "Signature Room Restaurant" on the 96th floor of the John Hancock building in Chicago is one of the highlights of my professional life as a nurse.

He was a wonderful, caring person. I loved spending time with him. So many times we would just sit and visit. When I'd leave his office, the nurses would say "Oh, you're still here," Dr. B never rushed through with a patient. I miss him terribly.

We were truly fortunate the day that Dr. Braunstein accepted us as a patient. How in the world will we ever be able to find another to replace him. Ken and Jan Weber

Dr. Braunstein was not only an exceptional, selfless, and caring human being but also a mentor, a counselor, and a listening ear to so many of us. He especially loved to see his tiny patients and made his presence remembered by sharing his M&Ms with them. Dr. Braunstein, you will be greatly missed by many of us.

He was a great doctor and a very nice man. He didn't treat me like a patient, but like a cherished friend.

I can't tell you how devastated I was to hear about Dr. Braunstein. He was the best doctor and human being I ever met. I have a rare disease and in 25 years of searching he knew how to treat it. I honestly feel like i know the family from the stories he would share. He was loved in this little community of Parker. We feel very blessed to have known him. I am so sorry for your loss but as you already know he loved you all dearly! Thanks for sharing him with us!

I was his patient before he moved to AZ. I have NEVER had such a knowledgeable, kind, and caring physician ! I felt like he was a personal friend to me. His leaving Indiana was a loss to the medical field. Please accept my sincerest sympathies.
