Richard F. O'Hara, 97, of Highland Village, Texas, passed away on Aug. 19, 2022.
He was born July 5, 1925, in Chicago, Illinois. Richard graduated from Watervliet High School in Watervliet Michigan. Upon graduating high school Richard enrolled in the United States Marine Corps and after boot camp served in many islands of the South Pacific during World War II.
After the war Richard returned home to assist in the family business, Haxson Dairy. Immediately upon returning from the war, he proposed and later married Genevieve Pitcher the love of his life until she passed away Feb. 20, 2021. They were married less than two months shy of their 74th anniversary.
The O'Hara family moved to Elkhart, Indiana, in 1955 where they purchased Lookwell Dairy. Richard was president of Lookwell Dairy until it was sold to Hawthorne Melody Dairy in 1965. Richard held numerous other executive positions including Parkwood Homes, Snap On Tools and Matco Tools. Richard also managed a '60s rock band called the Tempests. The Tempests were very popular across Indiana, Illinois and Michigan. They appeared on the Dick Clark Caravan and produced some singles under the Fujimo record label. Richard also served several years as the lieutenant colonel in the Indiana National Guard Reserve.
Richard is survived by his two children, Sandra K. Bowen of Highland Village, Texas, and Michael R. O'Hara of Dallas, Texas; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Richard was a loving father, a true patriot and a proud Marine all his life. His cremated remains will be buried in the Dallas Fort Worth National Military Cemetery.

My deepest sympathy to DIck´s family.
For the last 6 years, Mandis enjoyed conversing with Dick. We "swapped lies" (Marine speak for discussed - embellished our respective Marine Corps experiences) cured America´s woes , and had BOO-COO (Marine speak for many) laughs. DIck´s memory was phenomenal. His stories absolutely enthralling.
In `65, Elkhart IN, Mandis worked for Dick, and his Marine brother, Tom, who also fought in the Pacific Theater at Tarawa. Each year, for approximately 20 yrs, these gents organized Nov 10th, Marine Corps Birthday festivities in Elkhart.
In closing, America has lost another WWII Veteran- Patriot from Americas Greatest Generation. Not many left.
