Gilberto Ortiz Obituary
El Paso - Gilberto Ortiz, son of Maria del Carmen Perezfranco and Cesar Serbando Ortiz, passed away on November 6, 2019, at the age of 68, in El Paso, TX. During his life, Gilberto immigrated to the United States, worked with Job Corp, served 17 years in the US Army, and retired at a rank of Staff Sergeant. For his service in the Persian Gulf war, he was awarded an honorary Doctor of Medicine degree from Albany Medical College.
He is survived by his father, two siblings Gloria and Cesar, Olga his wife of 46 years, three children Gilberto Manuel with his wife Stacey, Karla Minerva, and Francisco Mariano with his wife Theresa, and five grandchildren. His family will always remember his kind soul and warrior spirit and will continue to admire his everlasting faith.
A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Anthony's Seminary at 12:30 pm, December 6, 2019. Graveside Services will follow at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery at 2:30 pm. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home West. Please visit our online registry at www.sunsetfuneralhomes.net.
Gilberto Ortiz, hijo de María del Carmen Pérez Franco y César Serbando Ortiz, falleció el 6 de noviembre del 2019, a la edad de 68 años, en El Paso, TX. Durante su vida, Gilberto emigró a Estados Unidos, trabajó con Job Corp, sirvió 17 años en el Ejército y se retiró a un rango de Sargento Mayor. Por su servicio en la guerra del Golfo Pérsico, fue galardonado con un título honorario de Doctor en Medicina de Albany Medical College. Le sobreviven su padre, sus dos hermanos Gloria y César, Olga, su esposa por 46 años, sus tres hijos Gilberto Manuel con su esposa Stacey, Karla Minerva y Francisco Mariano con su esposa Theresa, y sus cinco nietos. Su familia siempre recordará su alma amable y su espíritu guerrero, y continuará admirando su fe eterna. La misa conmemorativa se llevará a cabo en el seminario de San Antonio a las 12:30 p.m. el 6 de diciembre del 2019. One of my fondest memories was when we all went to Hawaii and Gilbert pressed the wrong button on his chair and we crashed a bunch of tables as we went into a program we were late getting to.
I remember we all laughed so hard.
