His ship has come in to carry him to the peaceful, boundless, paradise of the Lord?s home. The loving husband, brother, father and grandpa has shared his time on Earth with family and friends but has now been called to duty with Christ. Our dad was a gentle giant who silently lived the teachings of the Lord and imparted his generosity, selflessness, and humility with all who knew him. Ruperto ?Beto? Solis, 83, passed away peacefully and comforted by the love he gave and received for all who were graced by his friendship. A man of unsurpassed character and courage, he gave much of himself to make this a better place for all by serving our country in WWII with the US Navy, his community with the El Maida Shrine Temple Masons, his wife of 58 years, Julie Solis, children Norma Solis Acosta (Richard Acosta), Corinne Solis-Williamson (John Williamson), Richard Solis, Carmen Solis-Rodriguez (Victor Rodriguez), and his cherished grandsons, Benjamin and Vincent Gutierrez. Funeral services are as follows: Visitation will be held Thursday, November 8, 2012 from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Hillcrest Funeral Home-Carolina with a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, November 9, 2012 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Patrick?s Cathedral. Rite of Committal will follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. Pallbearers are PVT Benjamin Gutierrez and Vincent Gutierrez (grandsons), Joseph Barragan (nephew), Richard Acosta, John Williamson, Victor Rodriguez (sons-in-law). Honorary Pallbearers are Luis Solis Jr. (brother), Arturo Cruz, Manny Bustamante, George Bustamante, Johnny Ortega (lifetime friends).
