Donald Curtit Obituary

Donald Robert ?Bob? Curtit Jr., 79, Mt. Vernon, Missouri, passed away at 6:57 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at his home.

He was born Jan. 9, 1946, in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of Donald Robert and Zelma (Gunn) Curtit Sr.

Bob lived in several states in accordance with his father's Petroleum Company employment. Most of his school years were spent in Union, Missouri, where he graduated from Union High School in 1964 and then attended East Central College.

After retiring from the Missouri State Correction Center in Jefferson City, Missouri, as the Recreation Director, Bob moved to Branson, Missouri. Bob made his home in Mt. Vernon, Missouri, after his marriage to Sharon (Meyer) Kleine, Aug. 10, 2006, at Jolly Mill Park near Pierce City, Missouri.

Bob enjoyed a wide range of interests. He was an avid reader, photographer, fisherman, and sports enthusiast. He played/followed almost any sport involving a ball, especially softball, baseball, and golf. Bob was a strong fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Kansas City Chiefs. Bob was a nature enthusiast who could give the scientific genus species name of most animals. Bob thoroughly enjoyed traveling, especially to the southwestern states. He still carried hopes of more travels. Time spent with family and friends was his favorite activity. Bob enjoyed all kinds of music, especially country music.

Bob was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Freistatt, Missouri. He joyfully served on the school board and managed the sound system. He was looking forward to resuming church worship as his foot wound resolved. But he was thankful for the live broadcast.

Bob is survived by his wife Sharon, of 18 years; his stepson, William Kleine, Springfield, Missouri; daughter, Beth Holly, Florida; son, Kelly LaFaivre, North Carolina; two sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Daugherty and Betty Sawyer, Mt. Vernon, Missouri; and nieces, nephews, cousins, classmates, all of whom he cherished as they cherished him. Bob showed strength through gentleness/kindness. Our sweet, spirited Bob, loved by many, will be sorely missed.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Zelma and his brother, Steven Curtit.

Visitation was held from 5-7 p.m., Monday, May 12, at Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home, Mt. Vernon, Missouri. Visitation resumed at 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, until the time of service at 10:30 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Freistatt, Missouri. Interment followed at the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made payable to the Trinity Lutheran School sports and activity programs, or Trinity Lamb's Cottage Daycare, in care of the funeral home.
