John DeRossett Obituary

John Louis DeRossett Jr., 88, Wright City, passed away Saturday, July 2, 2016, at St. Joseph Hospital West, Lake Saint Louis.

John, a pipe fitter, was born July 12, 1927, in Grand Tower, Ill., the son of John L. Rossett, also known as "Red," and wife Nora Mae, nee Ellis. He joined the Merchant Marines at a young age in 1944 for 18 months. Later John was drafted into the Army from 1945 to 1947. He was employed by Granite City Steel, Illinois state, for 34 years. After John retired from the steel mill, he started DeRossett Tractor Sales and Service. John and his wife, Ruth Ann, ran a very successful business repairing and selling early model Ford tractors for about 10 years, then retired.

He loved to garden, travel, feed the birds, do yard work and cook. John loved his family and family dinners, fish fries especially. He belonged to Community of Christ Church, Wood River, Ill. He was a member of the American Legion Post 122 and V.F.W. in Warrenton. John will be missed and loved by all who knew him.

He was the beloved husband of Ruth Ann DeRossett, nee Norris, still at home. John also is survived by three children, John "Buck" (Monica) DeRossett III, Gorham, Ill., Joyce (Luis Molina) Martinez, Fulton, and Frances (David) Rose, Hermann; one stepdaughter, Beverly (Rick) McKane, Alton, Ill.; four grandchildren; two step- grandchildren; nine great- grandchildren; seven step-great grandchildren; and many half brothers and sisters.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John "Red" L. and Nora Mae DeRossett.

Visitation will be held Saturday, July 9, at Pitman Funeral Home, 1545 Wentzville Parkway, Wentzville, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Interment will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis.

A memorial service will be held at Community of Christ Church, Wood River, Ill., Saturday, July 16, at 1 p.m.

Memorials to Outreach International, in care of Pitman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 248, Wentzville, MO 63385 are preferred.

The family is being served by Pitman Funeral Home, Wentzville.
