Sherry Farris Obituary
May 6, 1938 - January 27, 2025
Sherry Kay Farris, a beacon of love and selflessness, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 27, 2025 with family by her side. Born on May 6, 1938, in Dale County, Sherry's life was a testament to the strength and warmth of her spirit.
Sherry was the cherished daughter of the late Marcus J. and Bessie Evelyn Beasley Thompson. Her upbringing in New Brockton was surrounded by love alongside her siblings, the late Barbara Jeanette Stadola, Mary Evelyn Childs, and Terry Marcus Thompson and her surviving sister, Rosemary June Wasness.
Sherry graduated from New Brockton High School where she made lifetime friends. She was married to Omega Farris, who preceded her in death. She embraced her role as a devoted wife and helpmate to her husband, and as a nurturing mother to her children, Gary (Linda) Farris, Lenny (Pat) Farris, Rhonda Farris, and Lori Vilece (Robert). Her family was her pride and joy. She dedicated her life to raising them with love and providing a warm, welcoming home.
Sherry's hands were rarely still. She helped her husband with his business. She used her carpentry skills to build furniture for her home. She was an exceptional, yet humble, southern cook and was renowned for her Thanksgiving dumplings, dressing and various desserts. She was an avid reader, loving and appreciating other cultures while adding their recipes to her repertoire.
Sherry walked out her faith. She was baptized later in life at Goodman Baptist Church. Her loving, giving heart was an inspiration to others; she was a true Proverbs 31 woman.
She is lovingly remembered by her eight grandchildren, Sarah Marze (James), Amanda Mayhue (Johnathan), Mark, Brooke, Brett, Kaylee Lemon (Marcus), Daniel, and Lindsey, and her two great-grandchildren, Jack and Ava, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. Each of them carries a piece of her legacy, her lessons of love, and generosity etched into their hearts. The memories she created should serve as a source of comfort. Her absence will be deeply felt by all who experienced her warmth and kindness.
A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, February 28, 2025 at 2pm in the Sunset Memorial Park Chapel.
