George Lang Obituary

George Ainsworth "Dad" Lang, Jr., of Pompano Beach, Fla., passed away at his summer home in Frewsburg, N.Y. on the 7th of July, 2010. George was born on January 8, 1925 to George A. Lang and Fern E. Minnis in Franklin, Pa. He was graduated from Meadville High School in 1942. He married his high school sweetheart, Jean "Lucy" Sackett in 1942. George served as a B-29 pilot in World War II in the Pacific Theatre from 1942-1945 and was discharged as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army Air Corp. George was employed by the Talon Corporation in the late 1940's as well as working part time at Dad's Dog Foods in Kerrtown with his father and brother Richard "Dick" Lang. George spent the balance of his working career from 1949 onward in leading Dad's forward in the pet food industry. He and his brother Dick fostered a company that provided nutritious and great tasting products for pets at fair and reasonable prices while creating a very caring environment for all members of the Dad's family. George became known as "Dad" Lang by representing Dad's in many commercials in the seventies and eighties. George had many interests in his life. He enjoyed singing, from barbershop with the "Saegertones" to playing Curly in Oklahoma in the late fifties when the new Meadville High School opened. George was an avid golfer, winning the club championship at The Country Club, Meadville, Pa. in 1964. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with friends and family in various locations throughout North America. George was preceded in death by his wife, Jean L Sackett in 1993. He married Eileen Akeley in 2003. Eileen has been a wonderful care giver to George in these last few years and survives his death. George was also preceded in death by his parents and his brother Dick in 2002. Judy A. Lang, G. Thomas Lang & Patty, and Patty Lang Monteleone & James are George's surviving children. Grandchildren are Laurice Fasullo (Chris), Leslie Kantra (Albert), Greg Terrell (Valerie), Bruce Lang (Ted), Sean Lang (Beth Anne), Lisa Monteleone, Jeff Monteleone (Rhonda), and Jimmy Monteleone (Amanda). Great grandchildren are Will and Ross Fasullo, Elizabeth and Jason Kantra, Kayleigh, Aubrey, and Owen Terrell, and Jackson, Mattingly Lucille, and Ella Ross Lang. Services and burial will be private and at the discretion of the family. The whole world is a better place because he was here !
He changed the life of everyone who ever crossed his path in a positive way...he was the kindest, thoughtful and most generous man I ever had the pleasure to know...
And to you, Judy, Tommy and Patty, I am sorry for your loss, and it is my loss also...you folks were not only in my life, but you all "were" my life for 29 1/2 years...how lucky for me to be a part of it all !
Please know that the "whole" Dad's Family will always be near and dear to my heart.
Hats off to our dearly departed "George", who inspired, loved and entertained us and gave his all to make our lives so much better...
We knew this day would come, but we can be thankful for the time George spent with us to make us who and what we are today.
I love you all !
