He was preceded in death by a sister, Eleanor K. Boyer of Hanover. A Christian Burial will be held Thursday, at 11 a.m. at the Monahan Funeral Home, 125 Carlisle St., Gettysburg, with his wife's nephew, John Kunkel, Jr. officiating. Interment will be in Greenmount Cemetery, Arendtsville, Adams Co. The viewing, where the family will receive friends, will be held Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Serving as pall bearers will be George's grandsons, Charles Altemose, George Ashton and Tyrel Taughinbaugh; grandson-inlaws, Ryan Myers, Jeb Wagner, Gregory Hummer and grandsonin-law to be, Nicholas Thomas. The family suggests memorial contributions in George's memory be made to the American Cancer Society Research, P.O. Box 3535, Gettysburg, PA 17325; or to the Hospice of the Good Shepherd, 1075 Old Harrisburg Road, Gettysburg, PA 17325, who did an excellent job of looking after George during his last months, along with the many caring aides and nurses at the Gettysburg Lutheran Home.

In My Pocket

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.
