Dorothy Latchum Obituary

Katherine Andersen Latchum, age 93, a resident of Bartlesville, died Thursday March 25, 2010 at her home.
Katherine was born November 6, 1916 in Council Bluffs, Iowa to John M. and Norrah Stork Andersen. The family moved to Tulsa in 1920, where she attended school, graduating from Central High School in 1934. She married John Wesley Latchum in 1940. He worked for Phillips Petroleum Company, and they transferred to Idaho Falls, ID, in 1951, where the family lived for fourteen years. They have lived back in Bartlesville since 1965. Katherine worked for a variety of companies before employment at Metal Goods Manufacturing. She retired from MGM after thirteen years.
Katherine supported her children and community in PTA, scouting, the Methodist Church and several civic clubs. She and Jack helped build the Girl Scout camp near Palisades Lake, Idaho over two summers in the fifties. She was an excellent seamstress and knitter and enjoyed gardening. Playing bridge was a lifelong pleasure into her eighties and she was a devoted Atlanta Braves Fan. She enjoyed traveling when she could, but Spring Creek in N.E. Oklahoma was her lifetime favorite place.
Katherine was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, her son John Wayne Latchum and her husband of Fifty One years. She is survived by her daughter Karen Hendry and her husband Clint of Salt Lake City, UT, Grand-daughters Andrea Johnelle and fiancé Matt Watts of Salt Lake City and Arielle Hendry and Doug Warren of Oldtown, MD, as well as brother J.F. Andersen and his wife Elizabeth of Costa Mesa, CA and several nieces and nephews.
The family greatly appreciates the kindness of friends and caregivers who enabled Katherine to live safely at home to the end.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages you to make a donation to Concern, 333 S.W. Penn, Bartlesville, Ok 74003, West Side Community Center, 501 S.W. Bucy, Bartlesville, Ok 74003 or to a charity of your choice.
