Robert Z. "Rob" Simmons

1945 - 2015

Robert Z. 'Rob' Simmons, Jr. passed away Sunday, January 11, 2015 following an extended illness. Rob was born at Memorial Hospital in Bartlesville July 11, 1945. He received his education here and graduated from College High School in 1963. He continued his education at Wesleyan College and ORU.
Rob excelled in music and was tour drummer for country music award winners Hank Thompson and Conway Twitty. Though he played drums for several music genres over the years, his real love was jazz.
Rob was employed by the 66 Federal Credit Union as a loan officer in the late 1970s and early 1980s. He was involved in several businesses including horse racing and breeding, construction, furniture brokering, and for the past 20 years, catering. He operated Rob Simmons' Catering & Dinner by Six until his health began to fail in 2012.
Rob was preceded in death by his parents, RZ and Audrey Deane Simmons and his brother-in-law, Wally Bray. He is survived by his sister, Lucinda Simmons Bray of Dewey and his niece, Gillian Bray, as well as a large family of close friends.
A memorial service will be held at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 300 N. Madison, Bartlesville, at 3:00 p.m., on January 24. A reception for family and friends will follow.
Honorary pallbearers include Mike Mnich, Tommy Humble, Richard Leopold, Richard Mitchell, Dr. David Taylor and Jim Hess. Pastor Janai Robinson and Warren Sapp will officiate with music by Rhonda Redden. Casual dress is encouraged.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Rob's memory to Animal Rescue Foundation, 127 NE Washington Blvd., Bartlesville, OK 74006.
