Omas Jewell "O.J." Shipman Jr., 70, passed away peacefully Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at St. Luke's Hospital at the Plaza. He was born October 9, 1954, to Omas Jewell Sr. and Lucille Wilma (Veach) Shipman in Pekin, IL. They later moved to Southeast Missouri where he enjoyed working on the family farm.
O.J. proudly served his country in the United States Marines Corp from February 1972 to January 1975. He received his GED while in the service and completed two years of college. O.J. worked on a ship in the munitions department and served in: Okinawa, Japan; the Philippines; Singapore, and several other places. On April 6, 1985, O.J. married Teresa Lynn Rosser at the First Baptist Church in Blue Springs. They are members of Living Stones Community Church. O.J. owned and operated the Happy Foods North Grocery Store in Kansas City, KS. He was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan, enjoyed fishing, hunting with his son, Travis, driving his tractor, riding around his land in the ranger, and tending to his banana trees. He loved sitting in his chair every night watching shows with his "loving wife of 40 years, Tessi." Above all else O.J. cherished spending time with his children and being "Poppy" to his five grandchildren.
O.J. is survived by his wife of 40 years, Teresa Lynn Shipman of Oak Grove; children, Sarah Elizabeth Parretta of Grain Valley, Travis Jewell Shipman and his wife Kalee of Oak Grove; grandchildren, Kaelynn Jewell Parretta, Anthony James Parretta, Amelia Jewell Shipman, Sutton Lyn Shipman, Aniston Marie Shipman; siblings, Joyce Connor of Waynesville, Carol Beam of Dexter, Steve Shipman and wife Linda of Blue Springs, Wilma Wright and husband Richard of Dexter, Ronnie Shipman and wife Vickie of Jackson; several nieces and nephews as well as a multitude of friends and loved ones. O.J. is preceded in death by his parents Omas and Lucille Shipman; siblings, Jean Wandvik, Othel Shipman, Nola Lockhart, and Donald Shipman.
