Robert Evans Obituary

FAYETTEVILLE - Robert Bailey Evans III, of Fayetteville, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 17, 2009, in Duke University Medical Center from a pulmonary complication. Bailey is survived by his ever-loving wife, Colleen; forever grateful sons, Bailey and Zan, as well as his younger, adoring siblings, Hunter, Richard and Mary. He attended Christ School, where he developed some of the most meaningful relationships of his life, which he held dear the entire duration. After high school, Bailey was educated in Greensboro at Guilford College, where he met his beautiful wife and yet another group of friends who meant the world to him. His professional endeavors included founding and operating BBZ Marketing Group, a company out of Fayetteville, while consulting for G&M Sales of Goldsboro. Bailey enjoyed the time he spent with his colleagues and believed it to be an honor to work with such remarkable individuals. Throughout his life, Big B influenced others with his charismatic personality, charming composure and insatiable thirst for knowledge. Golf and fishing were just a few of his hobbies, but in the conquest to master the riddle of golf and the cast of the fly, he found peace with his great buddies and the humble expression of nature. His real passion, however, was his family - his beloved wife, Colleen, and his boys - who were his inspiration. Bailey will never be forgotten, and the spirit of his character will rest eternally in the minds and hearts of the ones he loved. A visitation is planned for today, Sunday, July 19, 2009, at the residence of the family from 5 to 8 p.m. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 20, 2009, at Highland Presbyterian Church, at 111 Highland Ave., Fayetteville, with Dr. J. Ernest Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Evans family cemetery. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, please send donations to Duke University Medical Center, Paul W. Noble, M.D., Professor of Medicine - Chief, Division of Pulmonary, Allergy & Critical Care, 2079 MSRB II, 106 Research Drive, DUMC Box 103000, Durham, NC 27710. Services entrusted to Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home of Fayetteville.

My Dear,Sweet Colleen,
I just got the saddest call from Punky. I am sorry that I wasn't there for you. Bailey was such a cool and kind guy. The last time I saw both of you was at Patty and Tom's home after your Dad had died and it was like 20 years had disappeared. I felt that we had never been apart. Bailey was Bailey. He made us feel like old friends. Our hearts and prayers go to you and the boys. I will be in touch.
Love you, Deb and Neal

I met Bailey on two occasions - first several years ago when he visited his cousin and my oldest friend, Bill Church, in Brockville, Ont. Later my wife, Denny, and I met him in Fayeteville when we travelled there with the Churchs. Both times I was very impressed with how nice an individual Bailey was. Denny joins me in sending our condolences to the Evans family.

Colleen, Bailey Boy and Zan,
You know the hearts of your Canadian cousins are aching and with you each minute of these days.Your vacations to our part of the world, when your Bailey took our Bailey and Brodie to swim across the St. Lawrence River, or when we took all our children to make hotdogs on an island campfire are memories of a lifetime .Big B's southern charm and love of all things fun has impacted our lives forever.I hope you know how much we loved him and continue to love the three of you.Letters are on the way.

Dear Colleen,

I am so sorry for your loss. I can't begin to imagine what you are feeling right now. Dana and I want you to know that you are not only in our thoughts and prayers but our hearts and minds. Bailey or "B" was a wonderful Husband, Father, and friend. Dana and I were in Fayetteville this past Easter and saw Bailey and the Boys at the Seafood Restaurant down on the river. They had just finished fishing and had a wonderful time. I gave him a big hug and he apologized about being dirty. Always a true Southern gentleman. Perhaps my fondest memories of Bailey are at the farm. The "pig pickins", Basketball and most important the friendships and camaraderie. My heart aches for you and the boys. Bailey will be truly missed. Dana and I send you all our love at this sad time. Take Care,
Dell and Dana Kelly

Remembering dear Bailey today, with sadness, but also with happiness that he was so much a part of the Doxey family when I was growing up on Skye Drive. No one who knew Bailey will ever forget his smile. My thoughts and prayers are with Colleen, their sons and Bailey's brothers and sister.
