Richard Keith Vogel, M.D., 92, passed away at home in Greenville, N.C. on Tuesday, May 5, 2015. He married Marit Dorsey of Empire Mich., his wife of 68 years, and she survives.
Dr. Vogel was a native of Toledo, and a graduate of Toledo University. He served in the U.S. Army, after which he obtained his medical degree from Case Western Reserve in 1947. Following his medical residency, he served as an Air Force officer and physician at Selfridge Air Force Base. In 1952, he began his private practice of family and internal medicine in Wauseon. Dr. Vogel cared for patients of all ages in rural northwest Ohio for almost 40 years. He started the first cardiac intensive care unit at Fulton County Hospital. He delivered thousands of babies and encouraged fathers to be present during deliveries, an obstetric practice that was ahead of its time. He also served as Fulton County's coroner.
After retirement from his private practice he moved with his wife, Marit, to Harbor Springs, Mich., and worked as an Emergency Department physician in several hospitals in the surrounding area. When he retired fully from medical practice he and Mrs. Vogel moved to Jensen Beach, Fla., where they lived until 2013, after which they lived in Greenville with their daughter, Nancy, and her husband.
Dr. Vogel was an avid fisherman and hunter, and was renowned as an expert marksman with a shotgun in all types of shooting competitions. He also loved gardening and golf. He was active in Rotary. He was a lifelong learner and enjoyed studying medical journals well after his final retirement from practice.
Dick was a loving and dedicated husband to Marit, his childhood sweetheart. He was an exemplary father, a hard-working physician, and a good friend to many in the course of his life.
Dr. Vogel is also survived by four daughters, Marit Elizabeth Vogel, M.D. of Harbor Springs, Mich., Sally Vogel Giles, M.D. of Auckland, New Zealand , Nancy Vogel, M.D. of Greenville, N.C., and Martha Vogel, R.N. of Howell, Mich. He is also survived by two sons-in-law, Richard and David; and five grandchildren, Katie, Luke, Elizabeth, Christy, and Charlie.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Wesley Vogel of Toledo and Dayton, and George A. Vogel of Suttons Bay, Mich.
A private family memorial will be held at a later date.

Remember Dr. Vogel just like it was yesterday. Dr. vogel delivered all four of our children, always had time to talk about Fishing & Farming, and the list goes on. They just do not make them like this any more. May God be with the Family in this time of need --- Larry & Janer Weirich --- Liberty Center
