Ken Susie Obituary

Susie, Sr., Ken

Ken was born March 15, 1918 in Volga, IA, the son of Fred and Ruby Leete Susie. Ken attended elementary school in Marshalltown, IA, graduated from high school in Kenyon, MN in 1936, and received his bachelor's degree from the University of Minnesota in 1941. On October 26, 1942, he married Dehla Winkel in Berlin. Ken was employed at numerous locations with the Carnation Corporation from 1941 to 1954. From 1954 to 1983, he was employed by National Rivet and Manufacturing in Waupun from which he retired. Ken was a Cub Scout leader, a member of Waupun's Rotary Club, a charter member of Waupun Christmas Club, and served on the Waupun Memorial Hospital Board. He was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where he served on the church council as well as on the Forest Mound Cemetery board. Ken was a member of Rock River Country Club, where he had ten holes-in-one, scored his age for 20 years from age 72 to 91, and also held the "old nine" course record with a score of 31. Ken certainly was an avid golfer and a legend in his time.

Ken is survived by his two sons, Ken Susie, Jr. of Waupun, and Tom Susie of St. James, MO; three grandchildren, Jay (Steph) Susie of Carterville, IL; Andrew Susie of Charleston, SC; and Josh Susie of Bloomington, IN; a brother, Paul (Elizabeth) Susie of Elkton, MD; and a sister-in-law, Terry Susie of Phoenix, AZ.

Our sympathies to Ken's family. We have many fond memories of Ken as a neighbor, fellow Rotarian, and golfer. He and Mom/Ges Schrank were fixtures on the course for many years, whether Filly Derby or another event. He was a man to admire and enjoy a good story with. We know many share your loss. But also know that his was a life well lived.
