Roger Eugene Parsons, age 73, of Melbourne, FL, passed away comfortably at his home on September 12, 2011. He was born in Kentuck, WV on September 28, 1937, to Buster E. and Iva (Hamon) Parsons.

At the age of 20, he married Pearl Spinks, his best friend, high school sweetheart and spouse of 54 years in their home town of Ripley, WV.

Roger received his electrical engineering degree from West Virginia Institute of Technology in 1959 prior to embarking on a 36 year career in the satellite communications industry at Radiation Inc/Harris, RCA, Comsat, PRC and Harris before ending his career as General Manager/Vice President of the California Microwave/STS office in Melbourne, FL.

As well as a career in satellite communication, Roger and his family found time to operate a cattle farm and build and operate a 16 lane bowling center while living in Oakland, MD.

Roger is by survived by his wife, Pearl; and by three sons and a daughter, Dean and his wife, Cheryl of Port St. John, FL, David and his wife, Kim of Kennesaw, GA, Gregory and his wife, Nicqueleen of West Melbourne, FL, and Diane and her husband, John Lechmanik of Arlington, VA. Roger also leaves behind a special grandchild they helped raise, Brandilyn (Parsons) Collins of Washington Courthouse, OH; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A viewing will be held from 6 - 8 p.m. Thursday at Florida Memorial Gardens, Rockledge. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday.

I can't believe that it has been a year already. Even though I still mourn you I also want to celebrate you! In your lifetime you accomplished so much, you experienced things many people could only dream of, and you took your family on your life journey too in reality and threw your stories and wisdom. It has been a year since you left for your final business trip but you haven't left us, you are in our hearts, our memories and you visit in my dreams often. Dad,

A day doesn't go by without me thinking of you. I wonder often what you would think of some of the decisions I've made. I wish my boys would have had more time with their Pappy. I do remind myself that we were lucky to have as much time as we did with you but that still doesn't make it any easier with you being gone. I miss your hugs and being able to say "I love you Dad".

I picked my first fresh cucumber out of the garden today and thought of you. I remembered the story of yours and grandmas first garden. how somebody forgot to weed it and when papaw came to visit you mowed it all down and pretended you didn't plant one because you were embarrassed! because of that story I enjoy tending to mine. thank you for all the stories, I enjoyed every one of them and will pass them on to my children. Pearl, as you may remember, Roger and I shared the same office at Radiation and we became good friends. I recall the time I offered Rog a little dog, "Squeeky". He said he wanted the dog for his kids.
