Elmer Davis, age 76, of Prestonsburg, husband of Ruth Ann Burchett Davis, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 7, at the East Kentucky Veteran Center, in Hazard.
He was born July 29, 1938, at Dwale, a son of the late Mansford and Vina Webb Davis. He was retired from Kroger, a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the Pentecostal Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Mike (Janice) Davis and Robert (Carey) Davis, both of Prestonsburg; two daughters, Anita Davis and April (Jamie) Collins, both Paintsville; six brothers, Taulbee Davis, of Biloxi, Miss., James Howard Davis, of Prudenville, Mich., Clarence Isaac Davis, of Prestonsburg, Delbert Davis, of Sevierville, Tenn., Richard Davis, of River, and William Davis, of Dandridge, Tenn.; four sisters, Irene Stephens, of Allen, Mary Ruth Clay, of Cincinnati, Loretta Henderson, of Heath, Ohio, and Phoebe Sowards, of Ecorse, Mich.; eight grandchildren, Shawn Davis, Christopher Barker, Kayla Cord, Ashley Champ, Leann Shortridge, Morgan Davis, Courtney Collins and Bret Davis; six great grandchildren, Lauren Davis, Matthew Davis, Peyton Shortridge, Aubree Cord, Ryan Cord and Mason Lee Champ; two step-grandchildren, Jr. Ousley and Lisa Salisbury; and one step-great grandchild, Braxton Cord.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Johnny Davis, Eugene Davis and Harold Davis; a sister, Earnestine Clay; and a grandson, Max Mansford Davis.
Funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 10, in the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, with Ray Sayers and Billy Joe Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in the Gethsemane Gardens, in Prestonsburg.
Visitation is after 5 p.m., Thursday, and all day, Friday, at Hall Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers the family asked that memorial contribution be made to the East Kentucky Veterans Center, Veterans Fund, 200, Veterans Drive, Hazard, KY 41701.
