Cheryl Gindling Obituary

GENEVA- Cheryl Gindling, age 58, loving and devoted wife, mother, friend, and faithful servant to her Lord and savior Jesus, went home to heaven on June 23 after a courageous and inspiring battle with lung cancer that lasted 4 years.

Cheryl was Born in Canandaigua to Melvin and Georgann Huff and graduated from Victor High School. She went on to earn her BS in Education from SUNY Geneseo where she started as a full back on the women's varsity soccer team for all four years. Cheryl earned her MS in Education from Nazareth College and was certified to teach elementary education as well as special education. During her career, she taught at Monroe BOCES, Red Jacket CSD, Geneva CSD as well as St. John Fisher University as an adjunct professor.

Cheryl also enjoyed playing volleyball, softball, camping, racing sailboats and skiing/snowboarding with her family and friends. She served as the president of Seneca Sailing Academy for 8 years as well. Most of all though, Cheryl thoroughly loved being Nicole's mom. She was an amazing mom, dedicated to raising her daughter to reflect the same attributes that she lived by: kindness, love, laughter, and faith.

Cheryl will be deeply missed by her husband of 27 years, Jim; daughter Nicole; brothers Mark (Brynne) Huff and Dallas (Lisa) Huff; sister-in-law Liz (Bill) Dean, as well as numerous nieces nephews, aunts, uncles, and many dear friends.

Cheryl's family would like to thank the treatment team from Interlakes Oncology, Wilmot Cancer Center at Strong and the hospice team from Ontario-Yates Hospice for all their love and support.

Calling hours will be on July 1 from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at the McGuigan & Bero Funeral Home 45 High St. Geneva. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 2 at St. Peter's Church in Geneva.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Lollipop Farm, Geneva Reads, Geneva Center of Concern, Geneva Boys and Girls Club, Thrive to Survive in Geneva, N.Y., Seneca Sailing Academy or your favorite charity.

In Cheryl's memory, please give extra time to your pets/animals, watch a sunset and enjoy a s'more with your family and friends as they are your earthly anchor.

Cheryl is predeceased by her parents, Mel and Georgann Huff; as well as her grandparents.

Our thoughts go out to Jim and Nicole. Cheryl was an amazing person and we enjoyed our time with her and doing community theater with you. May God bless you all.

I am so sorry Jim. I will always remember Cheryl's positive energy and smile. ( ... and great volleyball skills!) Nancy and I will be thinking of you and Nicole always.
