Richard Raker Obituary

GENEVA - Richard "Rick" Raker II, age 75 of Geneva has passed away on Friday, August 15, 2025 at home.

Born June 7, 1950 in Aberdeen Maryland on the US Army Proving Grounds. The son of the late Richard Raker & Beverly (Georgia) Raker. As a military son, he traveled the states and abroad, settling in California. Rick graduated from Terra Linda High School in San Rafael, CA and Los Angeles Trade Tech College.

Friends and family may call on Friday, Aug. 22 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the McGuigan & Bero Funeral Home 45 High St. Geneva. Funeral services will follow at 4:00 p.m. in the funeral home, Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Rick had the greatest stories from CA that were amazing, racing cars on Mullholland Drive, surfing the waters, walking the Golden Gate Bridge, watching the Grateful Dead practice and Janis Joplin long before she was known.

In his younger years as a child, he spent his summers with his grandparents whom owned a marina on Keuka Lake in Penn Yan N.Y. where he fell in love with the water and boats. Rick chose to come back to this area of great memories and extended family. There he opened a shop; Captain Mean Jeans with his cousin Cliff Orr. From there he moved to Geneva N.Y. and opened Snuff n Stuff, and also became a co-owner of Styers Peonies. He had installed stereos, repaired cars, built hot rods and ran several businesses. After this time, he became an Electrical Journeyman working for PDI & CDS, building large bagging machines. Another passion was working with his mind, hands and great people.

Rick always gave all he had, racing and collecting vintage motorcycles, building hot rod car and he was an avid gun collector. Traveling on "Loretta" his H/D MC was a passion that he instilled in his wife. Their travels were many and far distances as often as they could.

A member of the NRA, AMA, AHRMA to name a few of these passions. The list of his music choices could never be matched.

The list of friends is endless; therefore, I will not mention one, but all of you. Rick loved to be with people as he loved all them dearly. To all his friends, know he loved you in his own way.

Before he and his wife married, off the cuff in Nevada, he was known as "Ricki Merola" so here's to you "Ricki Merola" you are missed, but until we meet again, thank you for a beautiful life as you are the Love of my Life.

He is survived by his wife, Angela; sisters Robin (Kevin) Shannon of Little Rock CA, Randi Lewis of Granada Hills CA; brother-in-law Pat (Amy) Welch of Geneva; sister-in-law Ann (Tom Bailey) Merola of Bellona N.Y.; several nieces and nephews.

Contributions may be made to: Please consider the Curtiss Museum, any of the above mentioned passions or where you heart chooses.

I knew Rick & Angie for many years. Used to pop in the store after Area records to talk & shop. Lol Lots of cool stuff back then! Not to mention the parties & events we all shared. What a blast! Treated me like a sis & always had my back.
Much love to you Angie & family.

Rick was truly one of the greatest men of all times. I first met Rick during his Snuff-N-Stuff days.. Memories that will never be forgotten...

Rick was a close friend of the O'Connor family for more than 25 years. He would arrive on his motorcycle on Christmas Eve, dressed in a green elf suit, to bring Christmas cheer-especially during the time when Mrs. O´Connor was battling cancer. We enjoyed Thursday night wings at the Yankee Clipper in Phelps, and spent time building Harleys in Hal's barn with Audioslave playing loudly in the background. Rick even rode Loretta during a charity poker run for the House of John hospice home. He loved people, a cold beer, and a good story. May your spirit soar with the wind against your face. God bless you and your family during this difficult time.
