Rudolph Calabrese Obituary

GENEVA - Rudolph Calabrese, Sr., 86, passed away peacefully with family by his side on Friday May 9, 2025, at Geneva General Hospital. Friends and family may call from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday May 18, at the Palmisano-Mull Funeral Home LLC, 28 Genesee Street, Geneva. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday May 19 at 10 a.m. in St. Francis De Sales Church, 130 Exchange Street, Geneva. Entombment will follow in St. Mary's Mausoleum.

Rudy was born on June 5, 1938, in Geneva, N.Y. and was a son of the late Joseph Ralph and Mary (Presutti) Calabrese. Rudy was a life-long resident of Geneva, and he worked for many decades at Hobart College. He had an incredible appreciation for his Blue Spruce trees that adorned his yard. Many of them he planted with his sons. Those who knew Rudy, knew he was a quiet man. He was very kind, caring and a devoted husband. His family was what motivated him every day. Rudy showed his family by example of what being a good, hardworking man was. His most favorite times were Sunday dinners when the family would come and good times were had. Rudy really loved his "Poppy" title. His grandkids were the absolute apples of his eye. Rudy's wife, Nina, was his true soulmate, his sons were his heart, but his grandkids were the lights of his life.

Rudy is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years Nina (Crupi) Calabrese of Waterloo; sons Rudy (Meredith Neinast) Calabrese and Joe Calabrese; brother Michael Calabrese of Geneva; grandchildren Natalia and Dominic Calabrese; nieces and nephews Sharon (Pete) Liberator, Mary Calabrese and Michael Calabrese; many great nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his little brother Joseph Francis Calabrese, Jr and sister-in-law Rose Calabrese.

Dear Nina and Family,

How saddened I was to read of Rudy's passing. We worked on campus together over many years...Rudy in security and I was at the bookstore. His obituary has beautifully captured the essence of his true being. While I had not run into him in recent years, his character and philosophical nature will remain in my memory. May you and your family fill your hearts with his legacy of goodness.
