Those who knew Ruth found her to be kind beyond measure. She had a smile and laugh that lit up the room. She and her husband hosted and housed friends, family and exchange students throughout the years making a home for each of them and keeping them close throughout her life. She enjoyed creating celebrations for any event that could be imagined and going out to eat with friends on a regular occasion. She loved being a Grandma and had a special individual connection with each of her grandchildren. Her genuine care and love for all was unconditional. She was committed to her family, church, and community.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Geneva. After marrying her husband, she became a very active member of First Presbyterian Church of Waterloo. As a member of the Presbyterian Church, she served as an elder, deacon, Sunday School teacher, financial secretary, a member of the chancel choir and the bell choir. Ruth was a member and president of Phi Beta Psi Cancer Research Sorority in Waterloo. She was a member and president of the Waterloo Research Club. Ruth served as a Team captain for 11 years for Relay for Life. She served as a volunteer for Seneca County Cornell Cooperative Extension 4-H. Ruth was an active member of the Taylor Brown Hospital Auxiliary. Her love for music was also enjoyed singing with the Red Jacket Chorale. She was a member of the Ontario and Seneca County Retired Teachers Association. Ruth also served as an American Dairy Association Volunteer Educator. For many years, Ruth was a dedicated volunteer for the Celebrate Commemorate Committee. She was a volunteer for Betsy's Playroom Childcare at Five Points Correctional Facility, for many years.

She is survived by her loving husband, whom she married August 17, 1968, Jerome F. Marshall; children, Rachel (Andrew) Williams of Geneva, N.Y., Rebecca Dixon of Auburn, N.Y., and Jared (Tedra) Marshall of Waterloo, N.Y.; grandchildren, Brent Williams, Amelia Williams, Brianna Dixon, Braden Dixon, Hannah, Kelsey Marshall, Clinton Marshall, and Lena Marshall; and brother, Paul (Vivian) Rosenthal of Phelps, N.Y.; as well as many cousins, "adopted" children, and many dear friends.

I will greatly miss Ruthie. We had adopted each other as sisters. We had so much in common and enjoyed our music together. She will hurt no more. I love you.
