Stanley Olevnik Obituary
Friends are invited to call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday (July 20) at the Baird Funeral Home, 36 Water Street, Dundee, N.Y.; where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday (July 21) with Rev. Judy Peppard officiating.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Ontario-Yates County Hospice Assoc., 756 Pre-Emption Rd., Geneva, NY 14456; or to the Humane Society of Yates County, P.O. Box 12, Penn Yan, NY 14527.
Stanley was born March 21, 1936 in Tyrone, N.Y., the son of the late Adam and Mary Paklinkowsky Olevnik. He was stationed in Germany while serving in the U.S. Army from 1957 – 1963. On July 2, 1960 in the Starkey Methodist Church he married the former Beverly J. Mathews.
Mr. Olevnik was a foreman for Rhinehart Sand & Gravel, in East Corning, N.Y.; working in all aspects of the business and operating heavy equipment and trucking for 48 years; finally retiring in January of 2011. He was a member of the Rock Stream Presbyterian Church, and a past member of the Dundee American Legion, and the Penn Yan Moose Lodge. He enjoyed crafts, and NASCAR.
"Stosh," as he was lovingly called, will be dearly missed by his wife of 52 years Beverly J. Olevnik at home; five sons, Stanley A. (Jacky) Olevnik of Penn Yan, Douglas K. (Mandy) Olevnik of Pittsford, Rodney G. (Melissa) Olevnik, Chester L. Olevnik, and Donald V. (Stacy) Olevnik, all of Dundee; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother Frank (Joyce) Olevnik of Dade City, Fla.; five sisters, Florence (Max) Denmark of Rock Stream, Mable Shoemaker of Dundee, Helen (Kenneth) Ketchum of Bath, Joyce (Charlie Glover) Youman of Horseheads, Janice (Carl Stuck) Travis of Penn Yan; several nieces and nephews; and his "Best friend" Jack.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Danny and Walt; and a sister Fran.
