Jeffrey Kinney Obituary

Jeff Kinney grew up in Miami and spent his youth living each day to be able to play sports. Early in Jeff's high school career he received letters from college football coaches describing their interest in utilizing his talents for their college football programs. Coach Bobby Sasser congratulated Jeff on his extraordinary athletic accomplishments on the football field and encouraged Jeff to continue to work hard to realize the destiny his athletic gifts could provide.
However, life intervened when Jeff moved to Dallas, Texas, forever changing his path. It was there Jeff met the love of his life, Lori Rives. Jeff and Lori both loved sports, and that was the beginning of the true realization of Jeff's talents. Jeff Kinney was a man who loved life and found a woman who felt as he did. They shared that philosophy and lived life to the fullest together. Wherever Jeff and Lori were, was the center of the universe for all of their friends and family and others lucky enough to know them.
This gentle giant of a man always had a big smile, hug, and helping hand for whoever needed one. Jeff was a big man with big appetites, and in no particular order, those passions were his country, his wife, his friends, his family, his pets and all of his many other hobbies such as football and fishing. Jeff was the person who helped the nameless stranger, the stray injured animal and any other person who needed him as he journeyed through life. This loving soul cast a big shadow by all of those who loved him, and his loss leaves a huge void as big as his heart that will be felt by each and every person who ever called Jeff a brother, son, husband, friend or neighbor.
He was preceded in death by David Kinney; and his cat, Maxx.
Jeff Kinney is survived by his wife, Lori Rives Kinney; his mother, Anne Kinney; father, Richard Kinney; stepmother, Joanne Kinney; his brother, Scott Kinney.
Funeral services celebrating Jeff's life will be held Friday, Nov. 26, at 2 p.m. in the Arlington Chapel of H.M. Patterson and Son in Sandy Springs. Interment will follow in Arlington Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in memory of Jeff can be made to either www.adoptagoldenatlanta.com or www.greatpyratlanta.com.

Jeff was my BROTHER, and my FRIEND. I wrote a lot of the Obituary so if you read that you'll know how much I loved him, and how he waived his magic wand over me as he did everyone else who came into his light. We talked through many big issues, and we shared sooo many wonderful times! No matter how much luggage I brought to Atlanta, he would wave that hand to shame me for being concerned - even after he too had broken his back. He would say Deb, I'm a BIG GUY! Oh how he reveled in his size! He loved the fact that he WAS THE BIGGEST GUY IN THE ROOM - AND THAT TICKLED HIM TO DEATH! :)

Jeff, my hubby Mike and Joni's hubby Steve all three loved to fish. They were a TRIO matched up beautifully. It was wonderful when we were all together at the 96 Olympics! The six of us had a memorable experience! We saw "The Dream Team" in Men's Bball, Women's Bball against Austrailia, and US Baseball against Cuba! Of course that weekend we had to navigate some bombs...but that didn't stop us. We did finally decide to avoid mass transit and DRIVE at whatever parking would cost. WE WERE MEANT TO ENJOY THAT EXPERIENCE! All of us have bricks in the Olympic Centennial Park and I'm grateful now that they are there memorializing the experience.

Another thing...Jeff never minded all of our nicknames..he indulged us: Big Man, Big Guy, Jeffro, Jeffy, my fave was Skippy(and I thought one relative was pushing it when she called him Skippy the Houseboy!) He would just grin and smile! He was a good sport!

I wish I had all of the hundreds of pictures in digital form so I could upload them here! Today, on my Refrigerator full of SPECIAL PICTURES - there it was - my favorite pic of Jeff and Lori...it should have been in the ones I donated for the file of pictures that played in his service. If you could see that picture you'd see that he LOVED my sister. Devotedly!

He had the biggest heart in the world for all the people and animals who were hurting, and that HUMANITY is what I'll miss the most! It is RARE in people anymore these days! I'm going to miss him SOOOOO MUCH! However, I know he is getting the fun going in Heaven...getting it ready for us to come later. I look forward to seeing him again....

I know my sister Lori is hurting, but he would not want that for her; he is at PEACE and he would want that for her MORE.

He was so good at cleaning up our mess when we'd be there....I know he is just tidying the area up for us to come stay someday! Lo is going to be lost for a while, but there are MANY, MANY people who loved them and they will walk her forward. Life is change, and it is what happens on the way to having other plans. That is what LIFE really is!

I just want everyone to know this gentle giant touched many, many people, animals and children in a wonderful way. Jeffrey Paul Kinney touched me, and I'M GOING TO MISS HIM TERRIBLY!

Thoughts and prayers for family and friends. In my mind, Jeff will always be the teenager, so gifted physically, and with an incredible ability to lead others. I have thought of him often, and others from our small band of ruffians who ruled our little world in the woods in the early eighties. I wish I could be there today but have prior family commitments, however, my thoughts are with all of you. Mark Lamade, Silver Creek, GA
