ERIC COLBY Obituary

ERIC WILLIAM COLBY, 43, of Durango, Colo., formerly Fort Wayne, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, April 28, 2012, having succumbed to injuries following a car accident. The Carpenter from Nazareth welcomed the carpenter from Durango. A graduate of Indiana University and Denver Para-Legal Institute, Eric was the proprietor of "Colby Fine Furniture", specializing in custom Craftsman-style furniture. He had a passion for the outdoors and enjoyed mountain biking, skiing, canoeing, hiking and running. During his seven-year employment at First National Bank of Durango, he rode his bike to work every day, rain or shine. He would ski to work in the rare case that there would be a snowstorm that was "un-bikable". He competed in the Iron Horse endurance mountain bike competition and had hiked the Colorado Trail from Denver to Durango. Eric loved to garden, grow flowers and vegetables, and create beautiful landscaping. He often took his dogs Amla and Kumar on his mountain adventures. Eric had a wonderful sense of humor and a contagious laugh. Those who knew him got to experience his extreme sense of adventure and his steady commitment to always helping others. He is survived by his lovely wife of eight years, Amita Nathwani of Durango; parents, Bill and Janet Colby of Fort Wayne; brother, Chad (Sara) Colby of Durango; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and a nephew. A memorial service was held on May 1, 2012 in Durango, Colo. According to Eric's wishes, he will be cremated and his ashes will be spread on Engineer Mountain. During this time of grieving, Eric's family is comforted to know that for those who have cried out to the Lord, "To be absent from the body is to be present with The Lord", this according to the apostle Paul. Quoting Jesus in John 11:25-26 we are assured: "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die." Memorials to "The Eric Colby Memorial Fund" to help with medical expenses. Mail to: First National Bank of Durango, PO Box 2910, Durango, CO 81302.
