My family and I met George on a Christmas morning a few years before his passing. We were waiting for a table at a restaurant when he walked in, requesting a table for one.
We invited him to join us and he was such a pleasure. It did not take much to get him to share about his life. He told us how he was in the Army, joining at a young age, some of his time in the war as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne unit ... I hadn´t known this was the Army´s first airborne unit. He talked a little about the battle at Normandy and Battle of the Bulge. I know he fought in one, if not both. He shared pictures of himself from the service and pictures of his family.
He told us about WPTA, Concordia/shut ins. How he loved his work and the people he worked with.
We learned a lot from George that day. He loved and cared for people. He experienced life. My kids were little and after just one meeting more than 10 years later they still remember his name. Brunch with George Castle remains one of our favorite Christmas memories.

The memory of George Castle is very much alive at Access Fort Wayne. The things we worked on together and just having George in our lives make us better. Some of my memories of George are with AFW moving in 2002 and again in 2006. He is forever in my heart.
