JOHN STURGIS Obituary

JOHN WILLIAM STURGIS, 75, died on Monday, June 28, 2010, at Parkview Noble Hospital, Kendallville. Born March 17, 1935, in Rome City, he was the son of the late Lloyd J. and Evelyn (Stiffner) Sturgis. He married Marlene Evelyn Dietrich Sturgis on Sept. 10, 1955, in Kendallville. He retired from Hudson Trucking in 1997. An avid I.U. basketball fan, he was a member of Elks Lodge 1194 and Masonic Lodge 276, both of Kendallville. Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Marlene of Kendallville; daughter, Brenda Donat of Goshen; sons, Greg (Gina) of Kendallville, Kevin (Leesa) and Chris, both of Sylvan Lake; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Donna Hefty; and brother, Ronald. Funeral service is 7 p.m. Thursday at Hite Funeral Home, Kendallville, with visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Burial will be held at a later date in Lake View Cemetery. Honorary casketbearers are his sons, Greg, Kevin and Chris; brother, Ron; and friends, Tom Alberts and Eugene Racht. Memorials to Black Pine Animal Park or Noble County Humane Shelter.
