LILLIAN EMBICK Obituary

LILLIAN C. EMBICK, 97, went to be with her Lord and Savior whom she dearly loved on Saturday, March 20, 2021. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and friend. She loved serving others all her life. She learned to play piano as a young child and used it most of her life to benefit others. After being a Red Cross volunteer for 10 years and going into nursing homes to do sing-a-longs she saw a great need for programs. In 1972, she started a non-profit organization called Audiences Unlimited, Inc. and was the Executive Director. She planned programs and community outings for 35 nursing homes. She served as a totally Volunteer Director and as a result won over 30 state, local and national awards. She was flown twice to Washington D.C. to be honored by Met Life and she was also awarded the Sagamore of the Wabash which is the highest state award given by the Governor for outstanding volunteer work. It is estimated that she worked over 90,000 volunteer hours in her 42 years as CEO. She attended Philharmonic concerts, ballet, plays and other community events where she got to see the residents enjoy the events. She married Byron Embick and he was a choir director so they often sang duets at events, church, and nursing homes. She loved attending many community events until her death. She is survived by her daughter, Sylvia Shelton; granddaughters, Julie (Jeff) Brumbaugh, Jennifer Robison, Sheri (Rick) Bennett; great-granddaughters, Samantha, Audrey, Erin, Ashley; great-great-granddaughter, Z”e, and great-great-grandson, Michael. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Byron; son, Stanley Billue; and son-in-law, John Shelton. Service is 3 pm, Saturday, March 27, 2021, at St. Joseph United Methodist Church, 6004 Reed Road, with calling from 1 p.m. until the service. Due to COVID-19 masks and social distancing will be required. Lillian requested no plants, flowers, or gifts to be sent, instead please send memorials to Audiences Unlimited, Inc., 1205 E. Rudisill Blvd, Ste. 304 Fort Wayne (IN 46807). These gifts will provide nice programs and outings for nursing home residents, as it was Lillian's passion to do this. FairHaven Funeral Home and Cremation Services is handling arrangements.

Such a lovely, caring and dedicated person. She made such a difference in the lives of so many through her work with Audiences Unlimited. But more than that, she was just plain nice. https://whatzup.com/liddell-award/lillian-embick

As musicians who worked with Lillian in the early years of AU, we saw what a blessing her efforts were to countless residents of area long term care facilities. They laughed, they clapped, they sang along, and we were blessed in return. May her family find peace and comfort as you celebrate a life well-lived.
