Louis Richard Montooth

1929 - 2024

Louis Richard "Dick" Montooth, 94, of Wolcottville, Ind., passed away on April 28, 2024, at St. Anne Home. He was born May 13, 1929 in Fort Wayne to the late Louis R. and Edna M. Montooth. Dick graduated from Central High School, Class of '47 and attended Purdue University. He proudly served our nation, in the United States Navy aboard the USS Mellette during the Korean War.

Dick began his apprenticeship with Borkenstein Plumbing and Heating in 1949 and would earn his Master Plumbing license. He and his partner, Dean Norris, would found M&N Plumbing and Heating, Inc. and would retire after 45 years of service and served on the Board of PHCC.

He was a member of Summit City Lodge No. 170, Valley of Fort Wayne Scottish Rite: 32° Scottish Rite Masons, Mizpah Shrine and active member of Crescent Avenue United Methodist Church for sixty-six years serving in various capacities.

Dick loved to repair things, play golf and card games, hunt and fish, but cherished time spent with family and friends the most; he was a special husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his children; Michael (Amie Berger) Montooth, Deborah (Douglas) Reed, Karen Montooth, and Kimberly Montooth-Welker; 9 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 7 step-grandchildren, and other relatives and friends. Dick was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife of seventy-one years, Evelyn Joyce Montooth; and son-in-law, Scott Welker. Funeral Service is 1 PM, Monday, May 6 at Crescent Avenue United Methodist Church, 1232 Crescent Avenue, Fort Wayne with calling two hours prior; Pastor Mark Gough, officiating.
