PAULINE REKEWEG Obituary

PAULINE MARIE (MAEHLMANN) REKEWEG, 100, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2021, at Park Place Senior Living, Fort Wayne. Born in Freedom Township, Henry County, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Ida (Rathge) Maehlmann. After the death of her father in 1921, Pauline and her mother moved to Indiana where her mother found work. Pauline was a life-long member of Zion Lutheran Church (Bull Rapids), Woodburn, where she was an active member of the Ladies Aid until her move to Park Place in 2011. She was also active in the Allen County Farm Bureau. Pauline married Herbert Rekeweg in September of 1940. Herbert preceded her in death in September of 2011 just two weeks before they were to celebrate their 72nd wedding anniversary. Pauline was a homemaker and helpmate to Herbert on the farm for over 65 years. She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed sewing for herself, her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her children, Donald (Carolyn) Rekeweg of New Haven, Carol (Michael) Martin of Woodburn and Verna (Philip) Kurtz of Fort Wayne; grandchildren, Matthew (Melissa) Rekeweg of Zionsville, Mark (Amy) Rekeweg of Leo, Anna (Kevin) Ariens of Roachdale, Pamela (Brian) Ripke of Oakwood, Ohio, John (Sarah) Martin of Fort Wayne, David (Melissa) Martin of New Haven, Christopher (Julie) Kurtz of Fort Wayne, and Kirstin (P. Thomas) Pinit of Portland, Ore.; 16 great- grandchildren, and one great- great-grandson. She was also preceded in death by her infant sister, Ida; stepsisters, Esther (Brenneke) Hockemeyer and Edna (Brenneke) Werling; and stepbrother, Norbert Brenneke. Funeral service is 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2021, at Zion Lutheran Church, 7616 Bull Rapids Road, Woodburn, with visitation one hour prior. Visitation also from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 30, 2021, at Harper's Community Funeral Home, 740 St. Rd. 930 E., New Haven. Masks suggested but not mandatory. Burial in the church cemetery.
