Dear Nila and family.
It is always hard to find the right words to express your feelings at a time like this but when we read the feelings of others, we realize that Bob was truly loved by many people far and wide. He was my coach at Boswell, In, in 1950. I always looked up to him, in more ways than one. Our deepest sympathy.

My deepest sympathy to the family,
I remember Bob as my coach along with Dave Beers on the Pocahontas swim team when I started at the young age of 7. What a great guy to have as a coach. He once told me if I ever took a breath at the end of the pool before touching the wall he would jump in right behind me and make sure I would never do it again. I never did it again. What a great and special man he was to many. I loved the days at the pool and swim practice too. I was one of the winners for that seven year stretch and it was awesome. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time of sorrow.

Dear Nila, Doug, Dan and Dave,

My heart goes out to each of you with the loss of such a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. My life has been blessed with both Nila's and Bob's friendship and knowing Doug during his high school years. I felt honored to work with and for Bob at Snider High School and when he was the Mayor of Fort Wayne. He was a loyal friend to many and a kind and honest man. He will be missed greatly.

Nila and Family: Pat and I extend our deepest sympathy at your loss. We have so many good memories of your friendship. One of Bob’s greatest achievements was appointing a very diverse group as an advisory committee to help select school board members, and then following that advice. This process brought about some excellent school board member appointments. Bill and Pat Anthis

Nila and Family, sorry to hear about
Bob. Bob was my coach at Boswell
in the 50s,he had me playing B team
ball and dressing for the A team where he always let me play for a few minutes. He knew I loved sports
and he was always looking at ways
to make me a better ball player. He
would have me in the gym every free
minute I had,and after school. I was
5,3 and he had his hands full, but he never gave up and neither did I. Bob
always said Ronnie its not how tall
you are its how much you believe in yourself. He was the greatest and I
will never forget him.

I was very saddened when my mom called and told "Big Bob" had passed. It doesn't seem that long ago that Terry and I would pile in that beautiful red Mustang with you and Bob for that long drive to Snider. Your family is in my family's prayers.

I remember well as a little girl going to Clear Lake, spending a week with Uncle Bob and Aunt Nila. Speed boat rides, and sunburn. I regret that it has been many years since I left Ft Wayne and lost touch with all. My deepest sympathy goes out to you.

Dear Armstrong Family: The memories I have of growing up around Bob and Nila remind me constantly of what a lucky kid I was that my parents had such terrific caring friends. I was always treated as if I mattered to them as much as their own children. Bob had a huge heart and huge laugh! My thoughts are with you all.

Dear Nila, Dan, David and Doug,
I am so sorry to hear of Bob's passing. I have many fond memories of your years in Boswell and your friendship with my family. My brother, David, and I stayed with you when our youngest brother, Mark, was born. I also remember my family joining yours at the Koeneman home on Clear Lake. Even though I haven't seen you since our last visit at the Republican State Convention some years ago, your names have come up often in conversations with my mother, Maxine. She sends you her sympathy as well.
Sincerely,

Dear Nila, Doug, Dave and Dan,

It was a shock to hear of your husband/dad's death. I was so glad that my mom (Connie Bullard) got to see Bob and Nila while she was in Fort Wayne this past July. She forwarded a photo onto me of them all eating together. I will treasure this photo and all the wonderful memories I have growing up on the swim team at Lake Forest and passing my life saving test with him as my "body". He was such a kind man and I shall never forget him. I'll be praying that you all will experience God's grace and peace that surpasses all understanding. It will be a rough road a head. Take care of each other.

Blessings,

Denise Bullard-Wiesenberg

Nila, Danny, Doug and David:

My family's thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. I am honored to be Bob and Nila's godchild and to have shared many memories with them. I especially remember your support, Nila, during my mother's stroke, and the love and support from both of you during my dad's death. Guys, this will be rough-- I've been there-- but you will feel God's comfort when you are ready. I envision our dads talking roundball in heaven and sharing stories of what monsters we were as kids. Take care of your mom, your family and yourselves. I feel so lucky to have had Bob as my godfather, and I will love him and remember him always.

We, the family & members of The HOUSE Of PRAYER/HIGHER HEIGHTS MINISTRIES OUTREACH CENTER of Fort Wayne, send our deepest and heartfelt condolences at this, your time of bereavement. the former Mayor of this city and our members go back quite a way... we were there when Bob was campaigning, when he won, when the hayrides were going forth, when he picked my neice up and carried her around with him all day long, gave her, her first silver dollar, when he was her partner in a potato sack contest!! Yes, she's 30 + some years now, and, we share in your loss at this time... but, know this one thing... there's no more suffering, no more pain... there's that resting place we all will face one day or another, I'm sure Mayor Armstrong is resting peacefully... May GOD comfort and keep you all. Mrs. Gertrude M. Smith

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Mayor Armstrong brought the city of Fort Wayne into the light in many respects. He was also a NICE person. Nice and politics don't generally go hand in hand, but, he was successful with both. My thoughts are with his family.

Bob ws a coach and teacher at Central High ( I was in the graduating class of 60) He coached under Herb banet in the much rivaled Central South game in 58. He was very well liked and respected as a coach and also as a teacher. He had a paddle with holes in it that we all feared and it worked. He was a proud and dignified man.

Dean Johnson

August 23, 2008

" Coach" Armstrong coached baseball, basketball and track at Boswell High School in Benton County, and my fondest memory is being Benton County Track Champs in 1952. Bob Armstrong is still admired by Boswell Alumni after all these years. My sincere sympathy to the family.

Thomas Schuckel

August 23, 2008

Dear Nila and Boys,
Nila, we had each others children in school, so we have a history.I have a plaque on my wall given to me by Bob for 22 years serving as scorekeeper for the B-ball team. We had a standing joke that every year after the season, (which always ended a few game sooner than we wanted) I would ask for a "raise" in salary and be given a 50% increase! (I was a volunteer) Bob put on an UNFORGETTABLE retirement party for Jackson and Schuckel 20 years ago. Bob was so active and did so much for Snider, the city and county that he should have been twins. He inspired me, and I am sure he left the world a better place than he found it. I share your loss.

Lee Sumpter

August 23, 2008

Mr. Armstrong not only taught at Boswell High School, Boswell, Indiana in the 1950's he also was our coach.
Your father was well liked & respected by all.
The thing I remember most was his method of discpline which was not soon forgotten after being served up with a quick swing on the back side with a paddle that he made. If one left a clothing item in the boys locker room or shower he would assemble us to the gym, drop the item on the floor & as we picked it up we received a swift swat. All our gym clothes & towels were military style stenciled with our names on the item so one couldn't deny it was yours. But he was also a fair man & the recipient of his rule which resulted in a swat for him self when he left one of his belongings in the locker room which was served up by Bill Nunnlly.
By sharing these words it showed the true character of this man.
Lastly your father always had a smile which one cannot forget.

Kay Lawson Gephart

August 22, 2008

I know my parents Bill and Dottie Lawson were so sorry to hear about your fathers passing...he and your Mother were such good friends through the years. As silly as it may sound, the one thing I remember about your Dad was how he use to do a headstand when he would come to our home in Chase. You and all your family are in our thoughts and prayers...I would have liked to attend your Fathers service with my parents, but we just bought a lake home and we have the closing that day....please know you are in my thoughts. Sincerely, Kay Lawson Gephart
