Daniel Merkley Obituary
Dan was born on Sept. 10, 1947, in Montreal, Canada, the son of Clifford Grant Merkley and Elizabeth (Brodbent) Merkley. He is also survived by his stepmother, Mary A. Merkley.
Dan served our country proudly, in the U.S. Army, during the Vietnam era, as a helicopter crew chief/pilot, in the 193rd Infantry of Fort Kobbe, Panama.
He co-owned and operated, Omni Metals Company, of Somersworth, for many years. Daniel enjoyed riding his motorcycle and spending time with his family and close friends.
Daniel is survived by his brothers, Greg Merkley, and wife, Mary Merkley, of Dover, N.H., Ralph Merkley, of Gilmanton, N.H., Rodger Merkley, of Somersworth, N.H., Brandon Merkley, and wife, Janet Merkley, of Barrington, N.H., Rustin Merkley, of Carboro, N.C. and two sisters, Debrah McNamara, and husband, Mathew McNamar, of Dodge City, Kan. and Heidi Merkley-Mulcahey, and husband, John Mulcahey, of Palm Springs, Calif.
Dan is predeceased by his mother, Elizabeth (Brodbent) Merkley.
A privately held memorial service in Dover, N.H. for family and friends is planned on Saturday, Nov. 26, 2011, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the residence of Greg Merkley. An interment with military honors will follow at a later date at the N.H. State Veteran's Cemetery in Boscawen, N.H. I met Dan in 2005. He was very encouraging and insightful and helped me very much. Regrettably we lost touch. Sincerest condolences to his family. He was a very nice man who has left us too soon.
