Patsy Corriveau Obituary

ELIOT, Maine — Patsy Williams Corriveau, much loved and devoted teacher "Mrs. C," passed away on April 27, 2012, of cancer at the age of 61.

Patsy's greatest passion in life was teaching and inspiring children. She taught with joy for thirty-nine years at Eliot Elementary and Central School as a grade school teacher and reading specialist. She loved trees, flowers, and animals and spent time every summer hiking and canoeing in the White Mountains.

Born in Sherman Texas on March 11, 1951, she lived much of her life in Maine. Patsy was a lifelong enthusiast of baton twirling, winning the Miss Maine USTA twirling competition in 1967, and teaching baton twirling until her illness this year prevented her from continuing. Patsy graduated from the University of Maine at Presque Isle and later earned her master's degree in education from Plymouth State University, N.H. Patsy will be most remembered for her warmth, kindness and compassion; she was always quick to offer help, bake a delicious batch of cinnamon pinwheel cookies, share a laugh over a game of Yahtzee, or to simply give a much needed hug.

Patsy is lovingly remembered by her family. She is survived by her mother, Freda Lamoreau Williams, children Adalia Corriveau of Portland, OR and Hannah Corriveau of Baltimore, MD; brother Robert Williams of Asbestos, Quebec; sister Tammy Paul and brother-in-law Danny Paul of Yarmouth, ME; sister Heather Williams of Columbia, CT; cousin Arthur Lamoreau and partner Michael Corbin of Madawaska, Maine; special friend David McQuade of York, Maine; and nieces and nephews Trevor, Erica, and Riley Paul; Hayley, Emily, and Megan Overturf; as well as many extended family members and friends. She is predeceased by her loving father, James M. Williams.

Thank you to her doctors and caregivers at Massachusetts General Hospital; The Seacoast Cancer Center in Dover, N.H.; Northeast Rehabilitation Hospital; her amazing team of Visiting and Hospice Nurses; and to the Kittery Lions Club for their generosity. And a very special thank you to all of Patsy's friends, co-workers, and neighbors for all your love and help over the past six months.

The public is invited to attend a celebration of her life on Saturday May 5, 2012, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. with sharing and reflections on her life to begin at noon, at the Red Barn 310 Portland Avenue South Berwick, Maine 03908. A second memorial service will be held in Northern Maine at a later date. Online condolences and donation information may be made by visiting http://patsy-williams-corriveau.memory-of.com. Care for Patsy and her family are entrusted to the JS Pelkey Funeral Home.

I am still shocked by her death. We had been writing back and forth through email for the past couple of years and went to school together up in the County. Like the gracious lady she was, she never mentioned her illness. My sympathy goes out to her Family. R.I.P. my Friend. You will be truly missed here on Earth. I was very sad to hear of the passing of Patsy. She was such a dedicated teacher and had so much love for her students. I worked in the school district where Patsy taught and it was always such a pleasure to see her come to our office for meetings. Her glowing smile was like an angel had just entered the room. Rest in peace, Patsy.

I am deeply saddened to hear of Mrs. Corriveau's passing. I was truly fortunate to have been one of Mrs. C's students when in the first grade. Her devotion to and belief in all children inspired me to become a teacher as well. She instilled a love of learning, especially reading, in me for which I am eternally grateful. Mrs. Corriveau's listening ear and caring words left each of her students a little kinder, a little more patient, and feeling very loved. May her family take comfort during this difficult time knowing her spirit lives on in all who knew her.

Patsy was such a beloved coworker, and caring, compassionate, tender teacher. Her name immediately brings about thoughts of a sweet, loving lady. She will be missed by, not only those of us who knew her, but the children who will not have the opportunity to have her in their lives. Deepest sympathy to her lovely family..may your memories of her constant smile and positive attitude sustain you in your loss.
