Carleton Herrick Obituary

Mr. Carleton Sewall "Carl" Herrick III, 69, of Frederick died Sunday, September 4, 2016 at Frederick Memorial Hospital, after a period of declining health. He was the husband of Pamela Herrick (nee Hinchliffe) for 47 years.

Born September 23, 1946 in Allentown, PA, he was the son of the late Ruth (Conrad) and Dr. Carleton Sewall Herrick, Jr, MD.

Carl was commissioned a U.S. Army Artillery officer in 1969, and served in combat in Vietnam. He was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart as a result of his service.

A graduate of Valley Forge Military Academy and Gettysburg College, he attained a Master of Science in Biology from California State College at Long Beach, and a Master of Science in Computer Science from the University of Kansas. His notable career in computer programming and data communications spanned over three decades, during which he worked for a wide range of organizations, including IBM and Wells Fargo.

Carl was widely recognized as an accomplished social and tournament bridge player, having achieved the rank of Silver Life Master. He enjoyed traveling with family throughout America and internationally, "in search of new wines and new experiences," and was a constant reader of both scholarly publications and fiction. He was an avid Phillies fan.

In addition to his wife Pam, he is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Herrick; a sister, Constance Weiss and husband, John; a brother, Christopher "Pete" Herrick and wife, Denise; sisters-in-law Barbara Hinchliffe and Susan (Hinchliffe) Stallings; brother-in-law Dees Stallings; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 15th at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, Maryland.
