Charles Schramm Obituary

Charles McKinley Schramm, 71, of Poolesville, MD, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on April 1, 2017.

Born on March 31, 1946 in Lonaconing, MD, he was the son of the late William and Alta Schramm. Known by his friends and family as "Sonny", he was the loving husband of Jean L. Schramm (Fleischhauer) for 47 years.

In addition to his wife, he leaves behind two sons: Charles (Chuck) Schramm Jr. of Chatham, NJ, Kevin Schramm and wife Kristina of Poolesville, MD; one daughter, Laura Schramm of Poolesville, MD; four grandchildren, Melanie, Kaitlyn, Julia and Joey Schramm; sister and brother in-law, Judy and Eugene Buckbee and family of LaVale, MD.

Sonny grew up in Lonaconing, Maryland, graduating from Valley High School in 1964. In 1968, Sonny earned his bachelor's degree at Frostburg State College, where he met the love of his life, Jean. After their June 1969 wedding, Jean and Sonny relocated to Montgomery County, Maryland. In 1974, they planted permanent roots in Poolesville, MD. Sonny retired from the Federal Government in 2006 after 38 years of dedicated service, most of which were with the Food and Drug Administration as a Systems Analyst.

Sonny was a kind, quiet, and caring man, with a wry sense of humor. He was a supportive husband, father, and grandfather who loved spending time with his family. Sonny enjoyed collecting model trains, watching birds from his backyard gazebo, and taking family vacations. He was a longtime member of Poolesville Memorial United Methodist Church and participated in many community activities over the years.

The family will be receiving friends on Thursday, April 6, from 5:00-8:00 PM at the Hilton Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville Rd. (Rt. 109), Barnesville, MD (hiltonfh.com).

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 7, at Poolesville Memorial United Methodist Church, 17821 Elgin Road, Poolesville, MD, officiated by Rev. William Maisch. Interment will follow in Monocacy Cemetery, Beallsville, MD

I went to Valley with Sonny, he was always someone that I considered a friend. That doesn't mean we talked every week but if I saw him at class reunions we had good conversation.
I'm sure he will be missed by all of his family and I know by all of us that called him friend. I don't know if I have every seen this man with a ruffled feather he was just a classy man. Prayers for his family and remember the good times we all had with him.
