David Thomas

1956 - 2023

David Timanus Thomas, 66, of 20332 Beaconfield Terrace, Germantown, died Thursday, February 23, 2023.

Born December 11, 1956, he was the son of the late Douglas Carroll Thomas and Janet Lee Hansen Thomas. Dave was born and spent his early years in Bethesda. The family moved to Darnestown when Dave was in grade school.

He is survived by 3 sisters and brothers-in-law: Susan Thomas Straus and Richard Straus, Carol Thomas Burlingame and Ed McDaniel, and Ann Christine Andrex and John A. Beutler.

Dave was a professional locksmith and loved helping people in emergencies. He was the proud owner of his business, Armadillo Lock and Security. Dave was an avid camper, and loved to hike and take pictures at Dolly Sods Wilderness. Dave enjoyed hearing about the exploits of his many nieces and nephews, by whom he is survived: Leon Straus, Wesley Straus, Adelai Straus, Bethany Straus, Jason Burlingame, Alison Burlingame, Nicole Burlingame, Eryka Andrex, Dylan Andrex and Rachel Andrex. Dave is also survived by his cousin, Tommie Thomas (Raymond G. Thomas, III), who was his closest relative to a brother.

A Memorial Service will be held March 18 at 1 pm at St. James' Episcopal Church, in Mount Airy, where Dave occasionally attended services with his sister Susan. The service will be live-streamed, via St. James' Church Facebook page. A fire pit Sharing and Remembrance Circle is planned for the same day, March 18, at 5:00 pm at Little Bennett Regional Park campground. Both are open to all friends and family of Dave. Dave had many lifelong friends whom he cherished dearly.
