Gladys Cross Obituary
She was the wife of Claud Oliver Cross. They were married for 63 years.
Born Dec. 5, 1916, in Addington, Okla., she was a daughter of the late Lewis Clark and Claudine Louphelia Love Brooks.
Mrs. Cross was a school teacher, first in Oklahoma, then later in Frederick County. She taught at Yellow Springs and Walkersville elementary schools. She retired in 1976.
She was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church, Frederick, the American Association of University Women (AAUW), the Frederick County Teachers Association, and the Women of Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA).
Surviving in addition to her husband are one son, Larry Cross and wife Jeanne of Middletown; one daughter, Jane A. Windmiller and husband Donald of Corvallis, Ore.; seven grandchildren, Tammy Comstock, Timothy W. Cross and wife Stephany, Lauri Wilhelm and husband Matthew, Jennifer Cross, Michael J. Cross and wife Jannet, Julianna M. Cross and Matthew D. Cross; seven great-granddaughters, Heather P. Nelson, Susannah, Melanie and Megan Wilhelm, Eliza and Amanda Cross, and Lenna Cross; one brother, Horace Brooks of Bethany, Okla.; two sisters, Mary Minor of Poolesville, and Ruth Green of Azle, Texas; and many cousins.
Mrs. Cross was preceded in death by one brother, Eustace Brooks.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, at Evangelical Lutheran Church, 31 E. Church St., Frederick. Officiating will be the Rev. Walter P. Fogarty.
Interment will be in Parklawn Cemetery, Rockville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Evangelical Lutheran Church, Attn.: Youth Group, 31 E. Church St., Frederick, Md. 21701.
