Harry Ruby Obituary

Mr. Harry Randolph "Ruben" Ruby, 76, passed away Monday, April 20, 2009, at Gettysburg Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Mary Louise (Johnson) Ruby, who he married Aug. 20, 1953.

He was born Nov. 22, 1932, in Germantown, as the son of the late Frederick and Martha Virginia (Savage) Ruby.

Ruben was raised in Southern Frederick County and later in Germantown. He spent his entire life as a dairy farmer, starting out working on his grandfather's farm in Germantown. In the early mid-1950s he moved to his own farm in Hyattstown and then farmed many years in Cedar Grove. In 1974, he moved from Montgomery County to Frederick County to farm in Emmitsburg.

Retiring from his dairy farm, Harry continued to raise some heifers and beef cattle. He was a member of the Maryland Virginia Milk Association, past member of the Farm Bureau, and was an honorary member of the FFA. Rubens greatest joy was his family and friends; especially watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren showing at the local fairs. When he wasn't puttering around the farm, his greatest pastime was fishing. He was a Dallas Cowboy fan and loved his wrestling.

In addition to his wife of 55 years, Mr. Ruby is survived by his five children, Charles (Randy) Ruby and wife, Caythee, Robin Hertel and husband, Dave, Harry (Jay) Ruby and wife, Karen, all of Rocky Ridge, Bonnie Glotfelty and husband, Gary, of Monrovia, Barbara Buisch and husband, Allan, of Mount Airy; 12 grandchildren, Charles Ruby, Paul Warthen, Christy Donnelly, Erin Sanders, Jaime Manning, Kelly Glotfelty, Joshua Ruby, Scott Glotfelty, Casey and David Hertel, Noah and Jayden Ruby; two step-grandchildren, Adriene and Tyler Buisch; 10 great-grandchildren, Ashley and Austin Ridenour, Nicholas and C. J. Ruby, Emily Manning, Ethan and Isabella Sanders, Kayden Glotfelty, Jamison Ruby and Madison Donnelly; one step-great-grandchild, Samantha Ridenour; one brother, Raymond (Buddy) Kauffman of Frederick; two sisters, Darlene Day and Janet Jordon both of Ijamsville; along with several uncles and aunts and many nieces and nephews. He will be especially missed by "his adopted children," Connie and Charles Catron, David (Monk) and Jane Savage, Harry Gamble and Ronnie Savage.

Ruben was preceded in death by his sister, Winona Ruby Lee and Peggy Ramseur, along with his granddaughters, Rebecca (Ruby) Ridenour and Jessica Glotfelty.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, April 22, at Stauffer Funeral Home 104 E. Main St., Thurmont. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 23, at the funeral home, with Rev. William Warehime officiating.

Interment will be in Blue Ridge Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Charles Catron, David Savage, Ronnie Savage, Jerry Savage, Harry Gamble and Norman Shriver. Honorary bearers will be his grandsons.
